This really only exists because of Chris Patton’s voice and the fact that I like these two 💜 Website/Commissions: https://toivoshi.carrd.co/ ⭐️ Other links: https://linktr.ee/Toivoshi

might just be me proselytizing, but on reflection i kinda feel echoes aim in terms of its themes on class were less class conflict commoner rising above the noble on merit and more so class cooperation disguised behind/cutting through meritocracy. Alms speeches near the end in regards to the subject are less on commoner rising above the noble and more so noble rolling up their sleeves and working as hard as commoner to improve and survive and vice versa. fernands families deaths arent because of their abuse of noble privilege's and status, from what little we know fernands family were exemplary or atleast decent people, but because the common masses overreacted and slaughtered them during riots over food shortages and an assumption that they were abusing that authority which in fernands families case is implied to be untrue [again for them atleast, it is implied that generally yes nobles are abusing their authority in zofia to horde supplies for themselves].
and again i feel that ties into the larger point. zofian nobles are abusing their authority and resting on their laurels well the country falls apart around them sure, but the zofian masses are also either unwilling to do anything on their own content to fatalistic dread, or french revolutioning reign of terroring things up with no regard for ‘what do we do afterwards?’ once everyone who manages the books are dead. thats not to say echoes is monarchist or pro feudalism, nor do i think its necessarily “both sides”ing it either since a large portion of the blame is clearly suppose to lay at the nobilities/structures of authorities feet for fucking things up and being content with inaction. The people are merely reacting to that failure after all. But i also think its atleast trying to say [if not terribly successfully because i’ll admit regardless of my comments here its the most confused in execution of echoes themes] that directionless anger but naught for tearing shit down or a disinterested shrug of the shoulders in the ‘theres nothing we can do’ vein is not how you handle such failures of governance.
from either end of the spectrum since fernands own anger towards the masses for his families tragedy blinds him to the failures of nobility in handling valentias crisis and causes him to make rash decisions to “shut those violent commoners up” with his deathbed realization being that that same attitude was what ultimately led to his death.
again its not the most well realized of themes, but its there to an extent [if unintentionally] and i find that fascinating.
