About the song, meant to reflect the feelings of the transgender youth: “it explores the idea of transmogrification – that someone can transform in a surprising or magical manner, rather than conform to a construct or idea of the norm.”
Every so often, we stumble upon an amazing artist or band belatedly and we find ourselves wishing we’d known about them far earlier, just so we could have personally enjoyed their music for that much longer. That’s exactly what happened today when I heard Febueder’s latest single, Stilts. The British experimental rock band has been around since 2011, yet we somehow missed out on their vibrant sound all this time. Stilts’ groovy prowling alt pop and rhythmic pounding rock immediately reminded me of many of my favorite art rock bands, like Foals, Wild Beasts, and Everything Everything, with a bit of Her, TENDER, and Formation’s dashing funk swagger. The single comes from the alt trio’s From An Album EP. Its video was helmed by director Jess Colquhuon, and it follows a Los Angeles high school cheerleader who embodies the track’s vigor and vindicating beat of perseverance. Febueder’s From An Album EP is out on iTunes, here.
