February is dedicated to the god named Februus. It's the god of the underworld, riches, death and purification. Februus' holy month was Februarius, hence English February, a month named for the Februa spring purification festival which occurred on the 15th of that month.Ā
On to the next one! Uneven Structure - "Februus" 2011 - Another favorite of mine, as well as another concept album, this album initially took a little time to warm up to. But once it finally clicked, oh man did it click. Musically, they make me think of a more melodic Meshuggah, focusing on rhythms rather than flashy shredding or complex chords. Lyrically, it's literal poetry. Showing mastery of the English language that majority of people in the US couldn't even dream of possessing though the vocalist is French, this album contains such depth and intricacy that it can be daunting to someone unprepared to dive in head first.
