11/11/11 tag
i was tagged by the lovely @sarmarble ! here thank you for tagging me and sorry I’m so late in doing this. Without further ado...
1. What is your favourite part of writing?
The discovery of it all. I’m not really one for massive plans and pretty much go with the flow of it all. I have an idea of where I’m going or rather what I want to accomplish in a particular scene but that’s as far as my planning goes. I like discovering the story as I write; it’s my favourite part of writing and honestly it brings me such joy (and relief) when the pieces finally fall into place :)
2. List 3 of your favourite fictional characters from books that aren’t your own.
Karou from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone Triology
Inej from Six of Crows Duology
Eve from the Morganville Vampires Series
3. Do you listen to music as you write? If so, what kind of music?
Yes I do. All sorts of music; mostly instrumental so expect Lindsey Stirling and Two Steps from Hell to feature on my playlist, but songs from my favourite bands do tend to creep into my playlists.
4. If you had to, what books/movies/tv shows would you compare your wip(s) to?
Books-wise: I would compare my WIP to Dracula by Bram Stoker for Vampires and The Mortal Instruments/Shadowhunter Series because the world in which AMOT is set operates under a masquerade: humans are unaware of the existence of supernatural creatures and a group of strangers working together to save the world from the villains. Drac, and to ensure that masquerade stays intact.
Movies: I would compare my WIP to The Mummy, especially considering that the second half of the novel sees Aliskandariya, Cailean and Iara, 3 almost strangers embark on an adventure into the unknown, hunting for the thing (person!) that Markus has been searching for. As the continue on this journey of their, secrets begin to unravel as they begin to discover aspects of their world that remained hidden to them (especially Aliskandariya). For this reason, I would say part 2 is very much like the Mummy, and I am most looking forward to writing it.
TV Shows: I would compare my WIP to Penny Dreadful by virtue of the mythology explored in AMOT and the aesthetic which I hope to achieve with this story.
5. Describe your writing process.
I am currently in the stages of my first draft, and the drafting process began with just writing random scenes. Now as I’ve stuck with this project, I have begun taking a more structured approach.
I’ve split the novel in parts, and briefly written a description as to what I want to happen for each POV character (of which there are three) and I just write my chapters around that description. It seems to working so far, though the plot tends to change direction quite often and I find myself having to fight the urge edit as I write.
To conclude, it seems my drafting process consists of a ‘discovery draft’ as any outline I have created becomes redundant after a couple of months xD
6. What keeps you motivated to write?
This burning desire of wanting to hold the finished copy in my hands. I’ve got to finish it because then the real work of rewriting and editing will begin and when I have finished then maybe, just maybe, I'll be closer to my dream of fashioning this mess into a real book.
7. Were there any books that made you decide to start writing? If not, why did you start writing?
If I think about it, I realise that I began when I was around 9 years old. The reason as to why? I think it was the escapism which writing provided for me. There were points where I stopped and then when I was 12 I picked it up again. I think I took a look at the books I read and thought “i can totally do that!” Several abandoned stories later, here we are.
8. What form of media is most inspiring to you: books, movies, tv shows, video games, or something else?
I honestly take inspiration from many sources, but music takes the top place; its ability to transport me into my character’s heads and into scenes means that it serves as the most inspiration form of media to me.
9. How do you get into the mood to write?
Music Music Music!
10. What are your top 3 fictional relationships, platonic or romantic?
Patroclus x Achilles
11. What would your characters’ reactions be upon meeting you and knowing that you’ve orchestrated their entire lives?
Aliskandariya: “So this is all your doing?” *hands alight with flames*
Cailean:.... *silence*
Iara:.... *looks to Cailean* “What Alis said*
questions under the cut!
