Average Joes Sports Promo Presentation
My presentation for Module NCI410, for FdA Photography Level 4. I had prepared a Power Point presentation to discuss my concepts for the new Portrait project. I discussed the idea of how the sports facilities, and outlets promote the idea of fit, talent people in their advertising. For me this isnt very appealing, for myself I am an Average Joe who enjoys some sport when I get the chance. But I find it is hard to find somewhere to go as a solo or pair to enjoy sport as most places are team based or regular fees and not very social.
My concept was an Advert campaign for a fictional sports centre that focused on the idea of Have a go sports for people who just want to turn up, pay a fee and enjoy a sports session without all the pressure of the normal sports environment. My concept comes primarily from my time as an instructor in the DofE and ACF, where physical fitness and sport where a big part of our programs. I enjoyed encouraging my students to have a go, give it their best shot, show them that they can do new and interesting sports without the pressures.
For my sports choices to explore, I chose Archery and Dodgeball. Two great sports that anyone can come along and participate in and enjoy.
For my model, I wanted someone who is a nice down to earth person who to me feels and looks like a normal everyday person. For this project, I asked my friend Natasha to pose for this. After explaining my concept and how I wanted to explore the shoot she was very happy to get involved and helped with the concept looks and feel. This was a good thing as Natasha is not a model professional or amateur, so this project is quite the challenge from the start so having her input and collaboration made for a great way for her to explore the role and feel a real connection which will show through in the shoots.
To achieve the look I am chasing up clothing, and props that have good striking colours that will stand out and feel sporty in front of a grey backdrop.
For the backdrop look I plan to use two coffin box light setups to back light my model and under expose a white backdrop to give it a good grey look.
One big considerations for this piece is the “Upsizing” element via photoshop, for alot of people photoshop is quite an interesting discustion point as it is used more and more to create looks that dont match the person and someone do not want to be retouched. Natasha and I have discussed the photoshop element of the project and she is very happy to allow me create a new look, even asking if I could give her some big muscles in her arms for fun.
I was quite happy with the feel and out come of the presentation and feel this should be quite a fun shoot with potentially interesting results on the photoshop side
