For Pre-Fall, Reem Acra made what could be construed as a lineup of basics. Or maybe, since this is eveningwear, they should be called standards. (...) There were no major innovations in this collection, nor did Acra go off on an inspired whim. She just made good-looking gowns. And the line was better for it. x

Fashion can't change the world—would that it were that easy—but even a committed nihilist would be hard-pressed to deny the beauty of a series of sheer gowns embroidered with stars, planets, and swirling constellations. x

Several Ralph & Russo signatures were at play again - a fluttering silk train flowing from an off-the-shoulder gown; a stiff folded cape tucked into a mini hem like the shell of a tiny delicate bug; silken roses on shoulders and hips; a sculpted New Look-inspired dress, a move-on from last season's beaded opener - but the real novelty here was a feeling of surprising lightness. x
