Ella had been back in New York for about 3 weeks now, it was odd being back if she were honest. So many things were the same, yet so many things were different, though she too was different. A little over 5 years ago she left the only home she knew, and the friends she had made, to work at a hospital in California. In all honesty she needed to get as far away from New York as possible at the time, and though it had been difficult at first it was beyond worth it. She had been given the chance to work with UCLA’s medical research group, where she was able to make breakthroughs on medicine and conduct several preliminary studies; whilst working in local hospitals.
Now though, she had been offered a position as a medical researcher at one of New York’s top private hospitals, an offer she couldn’t refuse. So here she was, 3 weeks in and at yet another party. She technically didn’t start until next week, but she needed to find an apartment and move and become re-situated with the city. She also took the time to be show-ponied around different parties so that donors felt at ease with her new research and so potential donors would consider her research. This was nothing new to Ella though, ever since she moved to California she had been to more parties than she could count, and by now she was expert. She knew how to flirt, be charming, professional, and persuasive. She knew the game and was more than willing to play. That didn’t mean she wasn’t bored, she took a sip of wine as she glanced around the room. She caught a glimpse of her reflection, she had on a knee length, blue, chiffon dress that hugged her curves and her chest, without being revealing. Her matching blue heels gave her a few inches and made her legs look a mile long. Normal curly hair was smooth and piled on her head, her new bangs framed her face and two curled pieces hung on either side of her face. Despite the lip imprint on her glass the nude-ish pink lip stick still looked fine and her eyes popped with her eye shadow, liner, and mascara. She wasn’t smiling though, so she placed a careful smile on her lips, always smile.
She saw Doctor Reighlen motion to her, he was talking to someone, probably wanted to introduce her to another potential donor. She looked at the back of the person and couldn’t help but think they looked familiar. Her smile turned charming as she made her way across the room, and as she moved to stand next to the Doctor she almost dropped her glass. She knew her eyes widened, and she struggled to not let her mouth gape. Jack. No wonder the man has looked familiar, it was because he was familiar. She thought she had gotten past the fear or chance of meeting Jack, since he had yet to be at any party she had been to yet, and this was suppose to be a smaller more intimate party. Guess it was just luck, because here he was. Doctor Reighlen obviously didn’t notice something was wrong because he just spoke, “Jack, I want you to meet Ella Doe, she’s the new researcher we brought in. As I was telling you from her work in California, she’s going to do great things.” Ella took a moment, before she slipped on a fake smile, though it would look real to those who didn’t know her. “Ah, Doctor Reighlen. Jack and I are already acquainted, I knew him before I moved to California.”
“Is that so? How great! Then I am sure you have plenty to catch up on!.” Ella could almost scream ‘No! Don’t go!’ at the doctor as he left, though she was careful to keep her emotions offer her face, smile still. She turned to Jack, “Hello Jack, nice to see you again.”
