Illyaâs brow furrowed, his lips quivering. He wanted to believe Dorothy so badly, to not see himself as a weapon, a monster. Illya reached out and cupped his belovedâs cheek. âYou donât and cannot know everything Iâve done. How Iâve lacked a sense of humanity,â he sighed, ashamed of his past.Â
âThey - militaries - they still do it to soldiers. During training, theyâll dehumanize the targets as much as possible to create elite killers,â Illya commented, having read an article about it a few years back. âWe donât think weâre killing humans anymore, and in that process we stop being human ourselves.â
Dorothyâs lips pursed as she allowed Illya to cup her cheek. âYouâve done... horrid things. I believe that. You were a weapon, a long time ago. You were the Sovietâs own Captain America. Not any more. You are your own man.â Dorothy slowly moved Illyaâs hand down to her waist, pulling herself in close to him, dwarfed by his dominating figure.
âIâve seen you fight. Itâs forceful. Brutal. Terrifying, even. But then I remember how I feel when you hold me. I feel safe in your arms. Like youâd fight to protect me the same way.â Dorothy nuzzled her head into Illyaâs chest, feeling his heartbeat. âThe Red Peril, Red Guardian, Captain Russia. I donât care. I only see a brave hero who will fight to keep everything he treasures safe.â
