#me
you and like maybe 5 other people get me on this and then everyone else pretends itās a bad album but say donāt panic is so good and perfect when all but 3 songs are completely forgettable
Hello my dear <3 let's go with 8, 23, 26, 40, and 44!
Helloooo, love! Thank you for these!
8)Ā what time are you most productive?
Mostly at night. Occasionally, there are times where Iām so inspired Iāll sit for hours during the daytime and write, but most of my inspiration comes at nighttime when I should be sleeping. Itās been that way since I was in college. My roommate would be fast asleep and Iād be up at my laptop, writing.
23)Ā least favorite story youāve ever written
Itās not my least favorite in the sense that I donāt like it or regret writing it, but probably Thinking Underage. It was the first story I posted on JBFA (actually, the second - I hope no one remembers the actual first story I posted and soon after deleted). Itās one of those things where looking back on it, thereās a lot I would change and most of the writing makes me cringe because Iāve learned a lot about how to write and myself as a writer since then. Shae and Nick will forever be my babies, though. I put them through a lot of shit but their dynamic was a lot of fun to write about.
26)Ā story youāre most proud of
I have to pick just one? Honestly, my heart is set on like, three: This Christmas, Remembrance, and The Boat. TC and Remembrance are both works of fanfiction while The Boat was an original piece, and I think Iām most proud of them because I got to pour a lot of myself into writing each one, RemembranceĀ and The Boat especially.Ā
My summary for TC is much more eloquently stated, haha, but itās about a couple, Joe and Margie, whose complications in their marriage are interrupted by an invitation to join Joeās family in Dallas for Christmas. Theyāve reached that point of āsomethingās gotta changeā and go on this trip intending to keep their problems under wraps while trying to work through them quietly, but is that ever an option? Basically, itās about mending fences when youāve put the holes in them yourself. I drew inspiration from the idea of breaking that image of a āperfect family,ā because families arenāt perfect and problems donāt just disappear because itāsĀ āthe happiest time of the yearā and if you really want to change things, you canāt just sit around and hope theyāll get better. While Iām sure that now it could use a few touch-ups, I stillĀ feel that itās some of my best writing to date.
Remembrance is a piece in which Kevin is reflecting on his life and several moments that have stuck with him that played a part in getting him to where he is at the end of the story, which is the present day. Some of the personal experiences of people close to me as well as some of my thoughts about life and how we deal with everything it throws our way went into writing this story, which makes me feel close to it. It also struck a chord with a lot of my readers on a deeper scale than anything else Iāve ever written, which was completely unexpected. Iāve actually been thinking about polishing it up and re-posting it here, but weāll see.
The Boat is about a girl named Claude who is at the beginning of her journey with dealing with her depression. I began writing it maybe a couple of months after I graduated from college, and it took me literally years to finish it because it was very personal for me and I was so worried Iād screw it up. Depression is one of those things you donāt understand unless you go through it, and Iāve always wanted to write something dealing with it but lived in that constant fear ofĀ āwhat if I canāt get it right?ā because everyoneās experience with it is different. The way Claude views herself and the way she feels about her depression is drawn a lot from how I felt before and while I finally started dealing with my own, so it was an incredibly personal thing for me to write, even if Claudeās story varies from my own.
40)Ā which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series
Oh man. Maybeā¦I donāt know! Maybe This Christmas? I feel like it would make for a great film, perhaps.
44)Ā do you write linear or do you write future scenes if you feel like it?
Most of the time, I write linear, but I definitely donāt shy away from writing future scenes if they come to me. Iāve got notes in my phone and at the bottom of Word docs and thereās actually an index card with a scene on it Iāve been keeping in my wallet sinceā¦December, maybe?Ā Iām always afraid Iāll forget them and I never want to take that risk. I can always edit later, when I reach that point in the story.
LEEEEEEESH MY DEAR! Happy birthday to you on this fine Friday morning (Friday for you, anyway. You crazy Aussie). I know you said it's not an important birthday, but you are an important person so EVERY birthday is important!! Thank you for everything you've done for me personally, and for the community as a whole. You've brought so much joy to so many people, and I know that I, for one, hope you continue to do so for awhile longer. I hope your day is splendid and you enjoy your plans ā¤ļø

2) Is there any specific ritual you go through while/before/after your writing?
Usually, I have to reread whatever I have written of a chapter before I pick up where I left off writing it. I canāt just start writing again; I have to review my previous words, I guess to get myself in the right mindset. I write a lot of my dialogue by reciting it out loud first, just to make sure it sounds natural. I used to have to listen to music while I wrote (a LOT of Jason Reeves), but lately Iāve found that I prefer the silence.
7) Inspiration, time, or motivation. Choose two.
OH GOD THIS IS HARD. OKAY. I guess inspiration and motivation, because if I have both of those, Iāll find time in between moments of fauxdulting.
19) Why did you start writing?
Writing is something Iāve always enjoyed, but it wasnāt until my grandfather passed away when I was thirteen that it became super important to me. His death was devastating, and I was depressed and wasnāt grieving and I threw myself into writing anything and everything I could to escape my emotions - journal entries, poetry, stories about me and my friends.
I went through a couple of stages where my preference of what I wanted to write changed - poetry for a while in high school, songwriting towards the end of high school and into college, and then in 2008, when I finally started truly dealing with my depression, I fell deep into writing fanfiction. It was my way of pulling myself out of everything I felt, a safe space where I could let my imagination run wild and get swept up in the lives of people of my own creation, or my own versions of people who existed in real life (the Jonas Brothers, in this case). Initially, it was like a safety net, a safe way to get into writing prose again because Iād been away from it for so long, but eventually it became so much more. I discovered how much I loved writing, both fanfiction and original fiction, and since then, itās been my lifeline, even when I struggled to get back to it after pausing for a year to focus on my last year of college. Itās definitely a passion. Itās the one thing I feel Iām good at, and it means everything to me.
The 100!!

to your anon asking about old writing: if you put /chrono after any tag url, it'll show you the tag from oldest to newest instead of newest to oldest! So just do '/tagged/writing/chrono' and it should take you back to the beginning as long as everything's tagged with that ā¤
