Meet FCCâs New Chairman-Ajit Pai: An Opponent of Net Neutrality
President Donald Trump will tap his pick for FCCâs new chairman- Ajit Pai. Elevating the sitting GOP commissioner on the top spot overseeing countryâs communications industry (based on 4 industry sources familiar with the decision being made).
Ajit Pai, a former Justice Department, FCC and Capitol Hill staffer predicted that â Net Neutralityâ and related rules adopted in the year of 2015 would not last.
Heâs a son of Indian immigrants, grew up in Kansas. Pai Stated that the commission should really take a âWeed Whackerâ for the unneeded rules.
In addition to which, he harshly criticized a number of FCC regulations that were imposed during the Obama administration.
Ajit Pai said somewhere in December:
âDuring the Trump administration, we will shift from playing defense at the FCC to going on offense,â.âWe need to fire up the weed whacker and remove those rules that are holding back investment, innovation, and job creation.â
Senator Maria Cantwell, a Washington state Democrat- opposed Ajit Pai in a letter to President Donald Trump on Monday saying:
âNot a supporter of the FCCâs strong rules to protect an open internet, putting at risk our robust net neutrality rules and the three million internet economy jobs it supports.â
Whereas, Comcast Corp, Verizon Communications Inc, AT&T Inc, T-Mobile US Inc, Charter and much more â-praised Ajit Paiâs appointment by giving different statements.
AT&T said:
âChairman Pai will work with his fellow commissioners to quickly and decisively put back in place the common-sense regulatory framework necessary to support the presidentâs agenda,â
U.S. Telecom, an industry trade group, said in a statement it shared:
âFuture based on a bold but pragmatic strategy to erase the many regulatory barriers impeding the expansion of our nationâs communications infrastructure, and the jobs and economic opportunity that depend on it.â
Advocacy group Free Press President Craig Aaron said:
âPai has been on the wrong side of just about every major issue that has come before the FCC during his tenure. Heâs never met a mega-merger he didnât like or a public safeguard he didnât try to undermine.â
Whereas Pai till now has not confirmed the news of him being the chairman, plus his current term will be expired at the year end and then he will need to be reconfirmed so as to continue.
