Countdown to Berliner Derby (2/10): Names and Origins to 2019
Union Berlin came out of a club called FC Olympia Oberschönweide, created in 1906, with the name change in 1966. Hertha BSC was founded in 1892, named BFC Hertha 92 after a steamship. There was a brief postwar name change to FC Gesundbrunnen between 1945 and 1949 before it was called Hertha BSC.
