[text] It’s one am and you’re asking me if you should buy a plane ticket for a booty call.

     It’s all a rush, but slow motion all at once. She’s suddenly lightheaded, her father’s words muffled as she barely recognizes his state of panic. Words betray her in their absence as she feels the dwindling heartbeat beneath her palm and his. She can’t speak for several moments, and instead reaches up to touch his brow with a weak smile.

They head back to the car while Mike presses a wad of napkins to his lip, trying to staunch the bleeding. On the way he stops at a stand and buys a cup of ice. “You might have to drive,” he says, testing his teeth with the tip of his tongue to make sure that none of them are knocked loose. After he wraps a chunk of ice in a fresh napkin, he replaces the bloody napkin and tosses it out.

“It’s a government car, so don’t crash it.” It’s not a government car, per se, but the Bureau pays for the set of cars that the residents of Graceland are allowed to use, so… it’s technically a government car, he figures.

Her concern morphed, and though it was still very present, she could feel a different kind of tenseness as they walked to the car, and stopped to get Mike ice. She didn’t see if Mike said ‘thank you’ for the ice, so out of habit, she mouthed it over to the man behind the stand, with a genuine show of compassion. Even though the man was literally just doing his job.

She held her hands out for the keys, looking at Mike with a RARE face of melancholy. “If that was serious, I’m a tad insulted. If that was a JOKE, it was poorly timed.” She owned a PORSCHE and if she had that for four years and never crashed it, she’d be just as careful with a car that was not her own. Government owned or not.

     She’s CERTAIN now she’s not imagining it -- Mike is definitely not thinking about the case they’re discussing. Or rather -- he’s not only thinking about it. A step closer brings them into each other’s personal space, and she lets her eyes drag along the lines of his body before she looks up at his face.

      ❛ Nothing new yet. It’s driving me crazy, I know there’s something there. ❜ She doesn’t bother to hash out specifics, not when she can use her words to imply something very different about their current situation. There’s a brief moment of silence as she wonders about his willingness to repeat what had obviously happened so recently, and then a shrug of one shoulder as she decided to just GO FOR IT.
