Martyr De Mona with FBDD & The Boneyard @ Gasworks Bradford
Saturday 29th of September saw the return of Martyr De Mona to Gasworks, Bradford. After a year away from West Yorkshire and the hot spot for all things rock 'n' roll, Martyr brought with them supporting acts The Boneyard  & FBDD, which brought a lighter shade of heavy to the scene. All displayed the diversity of the genre they proudly wave the flag for.
You would hardly believe this monster of a band which spits attitude injected lyrics on top of versatile, modern and mind blowing riff's backed to the teeth with powerful drum beats - not a year ago Martyr was in a place where the future was looking grim.Â
Arriving just in the nick of time, after mishaps on travel and a collision in time slots on another local band performing at the other side of Bradford, we still managed to get a quality spot to view the talent, the only issue the entire night was that the weather could of been warmer.
FBDD, who experienced their first road trip with Martyr De Mona and The Boneyard were the opening act for the evening, citing influences from Black Sabbath to SOAD to Led Zepplin. Stayed true to those influences and warmed the crowd up for an intense night of alternative metal and a full blown assault on the ears. Â
The Boneyard, one of West Yorkshires homegrown acts, whose music combines a sleaze groove of Dir En Grey meets a heavier, maturer BMTH with an unhealthy yet needed injection of Murderdolls-esque grime and glam before pulling in even more influences into their web - the band having played with the likes of Defiled.
They came on stage like they had a mission, kicked the gear into hyper-drive and didn't show any signs of remorse or sympathy. The band never kept still for a second.Â
These guys are a band to keep an eye on, if these guys continue as they have for 2012 there are no doubts these guys will explode on to a bigger scene with a take no prisoner attitude.
MDM brought the power to the stage Saturday night, playing to an intimate yet dedicated crowd.
Band members, Louis, Ant, Josh and Ash displayed phenomenal team work and stage presence. Making sure everyone was up and headbanging towards the end of the set. Within the first few minutes, it was easily the highlight gig of the year, blowing all the others out of the water and leaving them for dust.
Giving the crowd a taste of their new song "Contagion" - which displays the bands incredible talent for pure, unchained, and gritty prowess of lyrics licked over with masterful, ground breaking and genius riff's that would put most seasoned musicians who have had their fair share of the limelight to shame. Engaging the crowd between songs in friendly banter and even taking requests for more when they'd finished the set, the fans not hesitating to squeeze every last drop of talent out of them.
At the end they announced that their end show would be the debut of two new songs through Eagle Two Records. Â
The band is set to continue their tour right up until the 1st of December, with various support acts along the way. They hit:
Boston Music Rooms - London 05/10/
Numa Bar, Wolverhampton - Â 06/10/
The Beer Engine, Coventry - 27/10/
The Slade Rooms, Wolverhampton - 28/10/Â
The End, Birmingham - 1/12/Â
Martyr, who hail from the Midlands, have gained respectable and praising reviews and credits from the likes of magazines and online publications such as Metal Hammer, Powerplay, Black Velvet Magazine and Midlands Rock with their Eva EP which debuted in November 2010, seeing all four tracks make waves on notable radio stations including Kerrang. Which was quickly followed by a much awaited, full length Album in July 2011, and single thereafter. 2012 seeing them debut a video for 'Protect what's yours' and gaining an invite to play along with Guns N Roses.
However, despite such a staggering amount of notches on their belts, the boys of Martyr remain some of the most down to earth, charming, witty and fun loving guys whose passion for live music and it's survival knows no bounds with a fan base stands by them loyal and rearing to go. A real underground gem which promises great things in 2013, the creature that is Martyr sets the standards at an all time high for all up and coming bands wanting to leave their impression.
The Band is hoping to secure a line up slot one of England's most awaited festivals of the year, known as Download. We hope to see these guys snag that stage slot and show everyone exactly how it's done.
