working on my alphonse post-promised day fic and Thinking...
he's like 15 when he gets his body back, right? and like. ik the canon kinda skips his recovery, but i'm assuming he would be in/near some children's ward in the hospital. which is so important to me because he would be treated like a "child" after being in the armor for so long.
just thought about alphonse having to learn about what he looks like angry (or feeling any emotion in general) after getting his body back and now im emotional
another thought because i'm off today and have been writing a lot.
i think?? alphonse would have a serious like. identity crisis once things settled for him either during or after his hospital stay, because technically speaking.....when he gets his body back, he has to reorient to it again. its been 5 years. he's clearly grown from what canon shows us, but he wasn't inhabiting his body for a majority of that growth. his body is a stranger. again. that's a very eerie and unsettling thing to go through. the fun part is self-discovery!! but also???
more alphonse recovery thoughts because my brain is FULL. i think, for the first few days in the hospital (or even weeks, depending on how realistic you want to get), alphonse would probably be allowed very few visitors, if any. like his condition is dicey - with that severe of malnutrition and such, doctors would be concerned about his immune system and stability. which is a whole different flavor of the isolation he felt before, given that like. sure, nurses and doctors would do their rounds, yes. but he would really only hear or see things from behind his room door. OBVIOUSLY, EDWARD WOULD BE OUTSIDE THAT ROOM 24/7 TOO.

more alphonse recovery thoughts. i think he would really dislike long hair at first. like he might grow it out once he's recovered, but in the hospital i can see him having some trouble with. it might tug or a be a sensory nightmare for him. the raaaahhh riza cutting his hair. don't ask me why riza specifically, i just really like parental!riza and alphonse OKAY.
ouughhhh alphonse in the children's ward after his immune system stablizes. alphonse being treated like a child by other children
ouuggghhhh putting my boy through arts and crafts
i need to start posting my alphonse recovery thoughts on here. because i have many. too many.
