UNIVERSITY CAMPUS PLANNING AND DESIGN
We are delighted to announce that we have been appointed by both the University of Cumbria in Carlisle and the University of Teesside in Middlesbrough to develop the respective campus masterplans with FaulknerBrown Architects. The projects are ongoing and represent further opportunities to demonstrate our activated public realm approach to campus design in a portfolio that includes UCL, Oxford University and a number of projects at Newcastle University.

UK developer Tidal Lagoon Power has lodged a proposal to create the world’s first electricity-generating tidal lagoon. Demanding a budget of over $1.5 billion, the Swansea Tidal Lagoon is slated to generate clean, renewable energy for 155,000 homes for up to 120 years.

Amazing Spaces workshop with FaulknerBrowns Architects at Whitworth Park School, County Durham.
So as I potentially only have three months left here full time in the UK, I’ve been working through a library list of structures and builds that I’ve been wanting to shoot for my own gratification. With the weather being nice for a change in Sunday, I packed the kit and wandered down the canal to the Lee Valley White Water Centre. Cool place to just hang out in the sunshine and nice coffee too.
Lee Valley White Water Centre - FaulknerBrowns Architects
What a fantastic place.
The first London 2012 Olympic venues to be completed, on time, 18 months ahead of the Games....
Set within a landscape. Scattered parking. Public paths weave between the two courses with plenty of bridges for observation of the rafts and kayaks that skit below...
Building itself cleverly deals with levels to hide a service yard - from which visitors embark their various vessels, and sets up a great relationship between cafe and water at first floor level.
A satellite pavilion, low and elegantly detailed, has an outdoor classroom and cafe with a view of the Legacy loop of the course, not used for the Olympics, but used now by white waterers in training.
Was so impressed, I signed up for the 6-week Level 1 White Water kayaking course!
