West German Art Pottery refers to pieces that were created in West Germany between 1949 and 1990. The style features large, geometric designs on decorative pottery like vases, jugs, and bowls. These pieces are often called “Fat Lava” by ceramics collectors, referencing a thick glaze used by many manufacturers which resulted in a bold colours, heavy contrast, and solid, tactile finishes.
The red and brown vase is by Scheurich-Keramik, one of the largest and most prolific studios of this era. They are still in operation today. The large blue vase was made by Carstens Tönnieshof who were in operation until the late 1970s. The company branded its pottery with a ‘double-house’ mark.

何に使うのか、よくわからないものもあります。
古いものって一つひとつのアイテムにそれぞれの人生、歴史があって
色んな時代や時間、国境を超えて今 ここにいるんだな〜って思うと何だか感慨深いし、どんな人の手にとられて使われていたのかなとか、ふと思うことがあります。
喋るわけじゃないからその疑問は永遠に解決しないけれど、
新しく作られるものには無い 傷や凹みなんかも含めて、素敵な雰囲気がある。
それをまた大事に、丁寧に生活や空間の中に取り込めてもらえたらいいなと思います。
今は花器やキャンドルホルダーも沢山ご用意しています。

そのまま置いておくだけですごく雰囲気が出るし、インテリアの一角に加えるだけでその空間の見え方が変わります。
キャンドルホルダー、あんまり馴染みが無いかもしれないけど、独特で素敵なシルエットのもの沢山あります。
高さも出せるし、変形しているものも多いので、そのままオブジェとしても。
新しいものや本と組み合わせてもいいし、
あまり難しく考えず、気軽に楽しんでもらいたいです。
様々な国からやってきた色々なものたちの中から、お気に入りを見つけてもらえたら嬉しい。
