i’m trying to figure out tony’s reaction to captain marvel and her powers. if you recall, he couldn’t break through that thing in avengers (we’ll lose power before you make a dent, or something along those lines) and carol took out that ship like a knife slicing through warm butter. maybe he won’t think that everything still rests on his shoulders? maybe he’ll be jealous? maybe he’ll pepper her with questions so he can up his game?
i better see interaction in end game between the two of them.
i also wonder how vibranium will stand up to her.
frankly, i wonder how all the avengers will measure against her.
and no, i don’t have all the particulars memorized and i don’t have time to look the stuff up. i’m just curious and starting to put my questions down. i’d love to hear what others are wondering, too.

so hey, if you’re ‘new’ to following me and/or you haven’t read my Nick Vaughan (Before We Go) story and are looking for something a bit Christmas-y, well, Traditions just might be for you
maybe you want to pay attention to someone’s resume before you send them a position description that is completely beneath them, like, executive assistant vs sr PM. triple the salary you quoted and yeah, i’d take the job, except no, i wouldn’t. i’m not managing someone’s schedule. i’m not booking their travel. i’m not answering their phone.
(i rarely use anything like ‘beneath me’ but i just can’t come up with something better. when i use that, i’m not saying that the job is crap, i’m saying that my skill set is significantly greater than that job requires, like several orders of magnitude greater, and if i was sitting across from someone and they were reading my resume and they started talking about this job, i would actually be offended and i don’t take offense easily, like it’s rare, like i can probably count on one hand the number of times i’ve been offended at work, and i’ve been working in a professional capacity since 1991)
oh, and when i send you a ‘i think you sent this to me by mistake’ email that includes, in my signature line, that i’m a PMP (and a link to my linkedin page), don’t send me the position again.
i know that your system picked my resume out because of buzz words, but take 5 minutes and review the list/resumes before you send the job out. your lack of attention to detail tells me a lot about your company and, given the opportunity to work with your agency or another, i’m much more likely to work with someone who pays attention to detail.
i’m fucking good at my job because i take the extra time up front to review things before i send them out. do i miss stuff? yeah, sure, i’m not perfect (but i’m damn close), but i rarely make mistakes like that.

ppl: little piece of advice...
i’ve been a PM or supervisor since 1993. When I’ve managed people I’ve had as few as one employee and as many as a whole department (~50) who diretly reported to me. I’ve directed the work of as many as 150 ppl.
first: do your job accurately, this means attention to detail. Your speed at whatever you are doing will increase naturally over time. if you want to get ahead, if you want promotions and the possibility of making more money you know what you do? you do the job you currently have to the best of your ability and ask your boss what you could do better. ask them if there is something that they see that would hold you back and work on correcting whatever it is. make your intention known that you want to move up, you want to take on new challenges, and you want to grow.
moving from some sort of entry level position to a supervisory/managerial position is the hardest move anyone will ever make. you were one of the ‘gang’ and now you are a ‘boss’. it is a tough transition. another reason it is tough? just because someone is good at a job doesn’t mean that they will be a good manager of people who do that job. managing is most definitely not the same as doing. it is a different skill set. doing a job is, typically, about the ‘technical’ aspects: dealing with systems, spreadsheets, code, copy, whatever. managing people is about the soft skills. i would expect that the group that would have the least problem of moving up would be those who are in customer service roles as they have to have good soft skills. a lot of companies don’t understand this and that’s why a lot of first time managers/supervisors are, well, let’s be frank, crap. they haven’t been working on the skill set to be a manager and the company promotes them and then doesn’t work with them. shame on that company!
oh, and by the way: if your boss is doing their job properly, there will never be anything on an annual review that will be a surprise. what might be a surprise is that they score you differently (higher or lower) than you would. but any example they provide (and if they score you anything outside of whatever the ‘doing their job’ score is, they should be providing examples) should be one of which you are already aware.
I was in a meeting today, and the woman who had started talking to me about hiring me earlier this year was in there as well. The woman I now report to reports to her so I ended up telling her, just because I prefer transparency wherever possible, I told her that I’m going to start looking for work and that it’s entirely possible that there will be days where I have calls or I need to leave and I would be sure not to charge them for that time because it’s not work for them so that wouldn’t be right. She completely understands, but I could tell that she doesn’t want me to leave. That’s always nice.
And then, this afternoon, I was checking in with someone because of some work that I did for them at this time last year and we got to talking and she said that this company would be really stupid to let me go which was another really nice thing to hear; it’s always good to hear stuff like that.
This morning I figured out something big. I figured out what part of my problem has been. It’s been really difficult for me to get out of bed in the morning because...
I’m solar powered and it’s dark out when I’m getting up and that’s a problem.

holiday weekend starting to feel like a normal sunday (which is just fine)
so incredibly happy that i stayed home for the holiday. i’m not in physical pain like i have been for the past several years. i absolutely made the right decision. i encourage everyone to evaluate your relationship with the holidays and figure out what works for you and do what you can to make that happen. being with family makes you happy? awesome! being with friends really gives you energy and puts a smile on your face? do that! being alone is what works for you, and it makes you happy, go for it!
3 weeks of work and then i get 12 days off, really looking forward to that time.
