My aunt, who lived with our family, was a teacher of the Japanese art of tea ceremony and used to prepare a cup of tea for me. I also used to talk over tea with a neighborhood friend on the way from school every day. When I was a student in New York, I used to go to a Chinese teahouse and had colorful moments in neighborhood cafes. For me, tea is something which connects my past, present and future self. It is a daily thing, peace and a precious time of communication which unites others and myself. We can’t live without foods, while we can without tea. The fact that we are being able to do this dispensable activity means, I always feel, happiness and peace.
