FanvsFic is running another, our first original, event! This summer, between August 9th-17th, we’re challenging the fandom to pick out missing moments in the canon of the show and fill them in, telling/showing us how they believed those moments went down! All types of content will be welcome, as with rare pair week! Fanfic, fanart, edits, etc are all valid ways to take part!

When producing content for the event, please use the tag #rvbfilltheblanks and @fanvsfic​ in your post so that we can find it! 

What counts as a missing scene?

Anything that’s not shown in canon! The spirit of the event is to be canon compliant, whilst also having fun! If you’re unsure as to what counts, we will be providing optional, daily themes and prompts for people to use! These prompts will be posted in advance of the event for those who need the inspiration.

E.g. Missing Time, which includes scenes that take place during extended periods of time not covered in canon such as Rat’s Nest/High Ground, Wash’s time in Recovery One, and the year on Iris. 

(other theme headings include: Missing Meetings, Missing Backstory, Deleted Scenes and New Perspective)

Do we have to create fic?

Nope! Whilst we remain a fic-focused blog, for the duration of all our events we will allow ALL fan content, though they will not be tagged as stringently as we usually tag fic content on this blog.

What if I Don’t Have a Tumblr?

As with previous events, we will except entries from off-site (twitter, dreamwidth, pillowfort, ao3, etc etc.), but you must link us to them! There were a couple of entries that almost, or did, get missed in our end of event masterpost during rare pair week, so make sure to let us know where you’ve posted!

What are the guidelines?

Check /fillintheblanks on our blog for the guidelines! We will also reblog with the link. General guidelines still apply though; tag with consideration!

Remember to @fanvsfic​ in your posts and use the tag #rvbpicknmix (ideally within the first 5 tags) so that we can find your content! If we haven’t reblogged your work within 24 hours, contact us and let us know! If you’re posting off of tumblr, message us here and tell us where to find it so we can include it in our masterpost at the end of the event!

And remember, ALL fan content is allowed for the event, not just fics!

The concept behind this event is to challenge people to write for character dynamics they haven’t previously explored, but would like to! This could be anything from members of the BGC with little shared screentime, to characters from totally separate eras of the show (i.e. Chorus/Freelancers, BGC/Shatter Squad, etc). It can even include characters with on-screen dynamics that you’ve simply never personally explored but would like to! It also does not have to be shippy. This is for any kind of relationship dynamic.

If you aren’t sure what dynamics you’d like to write for, check out the pinned post or the /allcharacters page on our blog to find a collection of numbered lists to be used with random number generators to pick some! It can be as cracky or as believable as you like!

Check out the /picknmix page on our blog for further guidelines, but the general idea is to branch out, try something new, and have fun.

Summer Event Survey!

FanvsFic is looking to run another fandom event sometime this summer, and we’re looking to the fandom to see what type of event you would like to see! We’d be looking to run the event around August and though these ideas may be better suited to fic writing, all events will allow submissions of art and other media types! 

The current propositions are in the survey, but they’re also copied below the cut for your perusal. If you answer the survey, a reblog would be appreciated to get it out to as many potentially interested people as possible!

With everything as it is right now, people stuck at home self-isolating and anxieties running high, here’s a few ideas of things to do in fandom to either brighten someone’s day a little or fill some time!

Browse through our archive of fics! There’s all sorts of fic here on the blog. Some of it is old or exclusive to tumblr that you may not have seen before, or you might find an old favourite you’d like re-reading! There’s more coming out of the queue all the time!

Try the /multichapter and /longfic tags! There’s lots of long-form fiction here to occupy your time.

Type /random at the end of our URL! This will throw up a random fic that has been reblogged here on fanvsfic, one that you may not have thought to read but that might intrigue you nonetheless! As always, read responsibly; all fics are tagged with appropriate warnings. This isn’t a challenge to read whatever comes up, no matter what it is, but to give you a chance to expand your fic reading horizons!

Post your fic recs in the #fanvsfic tag and/or @fanvsfic! Share your appreciation for your favourite fics! Point out some little-known fics you’ve enjoyed, draw people’s attention to ongoing projects, etc. Spread a little love around and we’ll reblog any rec posts!
