Can i just vent? there's a specific kind of fic i'm looking for, but neither Ff.net nor A03 have it, and since i can't find it, i'm forced to write it, but i'm a terrible writer, so it's gonna look bad no matter how good i try to make it look, and i'm terrified that once i'ts posted, people will accuse me of using A.I to make it ;_;
You're just gonna have to get over that. The new reality we live in is that AI accusations are never going away. All you can do is say your story isn't AI, and the people who are going to believe you will believe you, and the ones who aren't, aren't.
Just keep in mind, you're not writing for them. You're writing for you. You're writing because you want to read a certain kind of story you can't find. If people like it, great, that's a bonus. If they don't, then you're still better off than you were before because now you have at least one story that's exactly what you want.
Are you still taking fandom asks? Because I gotta rant about female characters. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve watched Voltron, and I’ve only watched it once. However, from what I remember, I think Allura was a well-written female character. She was beautiful, yes, but also compassionate and intelligent and stuck to her values and was also a funny, amusing character to watch interact with the others. I’m just tired of people in other fandoms accusing me of misogyny because of my opinions on female characters in certain shows. I know this is a cliche but they seriously need to log off of the internet to touch grass and recognize that opinions about friggin cartoon characters is NOT reflective of how someone treats people in reality. Also, I’m tired of the Ty Lee simps in the ATLA fandom. I like her as a character, she’s sweet and funny, but the male fans just see big 2D boobs and that’s the only thought they have.
I'm always taking fandom asks. And yeah, the way fandom treats female characters is exhausting sometimes. Especially if you're talking about their negative traits, or even just admitting they have flaws. Lots of people get really mad at the insinuation that women aren't perfect, even if those women are fictional.

Don't you ever get lonely when interacting with fanfiction and fandom? I do sometimes the few times I read from them. I am not even conservative, but everyone is such a leftist. It is almost impossible to read one good fic where the main characters aren't written to be raging black-and-white “everyone who doesn't think like me is evil” leftists. It is so blatant and annoying.
Nope. I don't go to fandom for personal connection though, so we might be different in that. I can usually find a good number of fic that doesn't have lots of leftist nonsense, but I think that has to do with my ships, which are usually "problematic" and tend to attract the more chill writers who have no time for the outrage mob. Not that they're right wing, but they don't feel the need to virtue signal and cram their fic with whatever performative nonsense is popular. It also helps that I like some fanon interpretations, so I'm not super upset when characters aren't strictly IC all the time.
I also just write what I want to see so
I will say that, even with my ships, it is annoying to go through the fic and see a big uptick in trans character tags. All my ships are M/M, and I don't want to read about these characters being, or getting together with, women. It's also annoying when a character that has canonically crossdressed in the past for reasons that have nothing to do with "gender identity" are suddenly adopted as trans by the fandom and that basically ruins at least half the fic that gets put out.
Thankfully I have a bunch of Harry Potter ships, and the troons tend to stay away from anything HP these days. So, thanks, Jo! XD

Fandom question, what’s your opinion on self-shipping/self-ship OCs?
I’m mostly talking about the more indie media where people just like to draw or write about themselves or their in-universe sona interacting with their favorite characters for fun, not any of the Harry Styles fanfic or Sans fangirl examples I’ve seen. But I’d also like to hear your opinion on it in more popular stuff too, still using the example of the more chill or passive self-shippers.
It's not for me at all, but as long as it's not about real people I have no issue with it. I got into fandom and fanfic in the early 2010s, which was towards the end of the early era of fic when it was mostly written either by 12-16 year old girls or 40+ year old women. With the younger crowd, you got a lot of "me and my three best friends woke up in Lord of the Rings! Legolas was totally into Becky, but Aragorn can't stop looking at me! What's gonna happen when Arwen gets jealous???" and similar things. Lame and cringe, but ultimately harmless. These days it can get a lot weirder, and with people having social media access to celebrities, there's a bigger potential for creepy harassment which I'm not fond of. But in and of itself, self-shipping or self-insert OCs aren't a problem. I can just skip by those when they turn up in my searches and move on.
