Frank, what are some of your favorite modern boardgames? When was the last time you played one, and how did you win?
The last time I played any boardgames was probably last Christmas. I don't think I've played a modern game since then.
I didn't think I'd like most modern games because I have a very low BS threshold and I feel like the ones that are any good are hard to describe in a way that can be quickly assimilated by an outsider. I'm not sure I'm wrong about that, but I did end up playing/liking a bunch of modern games, mostly over the Internet. The one I most liked was a card game called Love Letter.
(The game's website is here. It can be played 1v1, 2v2, or just for solitaire.)
The premise of the game is that the King has promised the hand of his princess to any man who can prove that he is a better man than the others. To do so, he forces them to play a trick-taking game (with the trick winning the highest card getting the princess). (Or maybe he takes a drink of wine and whoever has the highest card can take the cup from him, is another popular variation.)
I don't have good cards decks anymore, and the ones I've found online don't seem to be of good quality, so I haven't played it in the past 5-6 months. That is unfortunate because I don't have many other games I like as much, and it's also unfortunate because I feel like there are many things you could do with the cards that could open up more strategic possibilities (as a good design, no one would want to get rid of any cards they have; so you could open more lines of play). So, if you play the game at some point, let me know what you think of it!
If you have further questions about the game, write me an ask.
If I'm missing anything about the game, do tell me.
