a friend of mine loves fire emblem & has been trying to get me into the series for years now, and when I finally started showing interest in the worlds & characters he was delighted to yap w/ me about the games with me.
However, this led to me discovering he is of the firm belief that the Shepherds of Awakening are all blatantly worse versions of Greil’s Mercenaries from Path of Radiance & I just. Cannot see it. I don’t get it. He pointed out examples & to be fair some of them were valid examples of similar characters (Lissa & Mist do give off similar vibes from what ik) but even when he had a point it felt like he was pointing out reused character archetypes in the franchise known for reusing character archetypes & calling them ripoffs, and that’s not even getting into the more baffling comparisons. He claimed Robin is a copy of Soren (bc tactician w/mysterious backstory who’s close w/ lord ig)??? Virion is a retread of Elincia (i think it’s the runaway noble connection which is. Hasn’t that been a thing since fe1)??? I don’t know enough about fe9 to know for sure but it seems like a stretch. He also believes that Robin isn’t a main protagonist of Awakening & that it’s Chrom’s story alone & that just. Does not match what I know abt the game at all?
To be fair I’ve never played either game so I don’t know how accurate he is but it still makes no sense to me??? Is he crazy or is he onto something here, I don’t have enough knowledge to tell
