YOU inspired me to finally buy a Turkish spindle : > a mini cherry wood 'glider' style : -) can't wait to try it outttttt
YES!! THIS IS MY LEGACY 🥳🥳🤩🤩🤩🎉🎉🎉🎉
Please do come back and report how you like the mini turkish, I hope you love it!
hi there! you have a lot of lovely yarn projects and since it's tour de fleece, I was wondering what spindle stores you like, especially for supported spindles? I recently got a russian spindle from snyders spindles and found it to be much easier with short fibers but haven't tried any other type.
That’s so kind of you to say, thank you so much!
Spindle shops that I like. In my experience, supported spindles do seem to be harder to buy than most other types of spindles, and they do tend to be more expensive. With that in mind, I’ve purchased and liked supported spindles from:
The Dancing Goats on Etsy, they have a lot of really interesting historical reenactment spindles in addition to Russian spindles, French spindles, lots of shafts and whorls you can buy separately as well: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheDancingGoats?dd_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fkagi.com§ion_id=14863888&page=2#items
Ghstworks on Etsy (I actually haven’t purchased from this vendor but they are on my list and do come highly recommended, they make a lot of colorful phang spindles among other things): https://www.etsy.com/shop/Ghstworks?section_id=14240421
Kravelli (based in Georgia the country. Shipping was very reasonable and timely when I ordered, I really like that they have very tiny mini supported spindles, they are super fun): https://kravelli.com
Woodland Handcrafts, more expensive than the previous options, but totally worth it. Beautiful spindles, they spin amazingly well. His main weekly updates do frequently sell out quickly, but he does have a made to order option for many of the styles (including the Russian spindles) with a 4-6 week turnaround (though I did get mine faster than that): https://woodlandhandcrafts.com/collections/all-products
Its so so easy to start a new spindle project
There’s about 30 grams of fiber on this spindle, and the spindle itself is only 19g so I’m not sure how much more I’m going to be able to keep adding to this.

The match between the fiber and the spindle was not intentional but i’m super not mad about it 😌
Two spindles full! And seven to go :)
This guy from the Denton Woodturners says about 30g/cm^2 (I think those are his units anyway) is a good moment of intertia to aim for when deciding what size to make your spindle whorl
