Jinx and Caitlyn fandom hypocrisy
Jinx: Willfully works for the man who kidnapped Vander and tried to kill her family. Also worked for the same man who spread an addictive and dangerous drug to the streets of Zaun and worked with corrupt Enforcers. She has killed Firelights, who were heroic Zaunites under Ekko's leadership. Lured in Caitlyn and other Enforcers by pretending to be a lost child and bombed them. Shot at both Caitlyn and Vi, mainly to kill the former but she did risk Vi's life. Tried to kill Ekko. Broke into Caitlyn's home while she was showering and kidnapped her. Hit and kidnapped Vi. Kidnapped Silco. Forced Vi to play a messed up game of choosing "Powder" or Caitlyn. Threatened to kill Caitlyn. Bombed the Council and while she didn't know they be there, her act still cause deaths and injuries, not only to three members (including Catilyn's mom) but also other people. When Vi angrily states how many kids she orphaned, she laughs it off. She never owns up or feels/shows regret over any of this
Fandom: "Oh, well she has trauma and mental illness, so it's excusable"
Caitlyn: Due to being emotionally/psychologically tortured by Jinx and mother killed by same person Caitlyn did nothing to, Caitlyn has become driven by grief and rage. She releases the Grey to capture the Chem Barons but is visibly hurting with her decision. After a complex situation where Vi stated to take the shot if she sees Jinx but is stopped by Vi but Vi did so in order to not risk a child's safety, and then compared to her mother's killer by Vi, Caitly angrily rifle butts and leaves her, despite the instant remorse she felt from her actions. Willfully becomes Commander under Ambessa's command to find Jinx but become disillusioned over the months working with the warlord. She calls out Ambessa for letting Rictus incite violence. After meeting with Vi again, she betrays Ambessa, doesn't shoot Jinx when given the chance, and helps (temporarily) free Warwick. Saves an ijured Vi, imprisons (doesn't kill) Jinx, waits for Vi to wake to make a decision. Doesn't torture Jinx in anyway but holds the latter accountable for her actions. Caitlyn also holds herself accountable. Engineers the breakout of Jinx without Vi knowing, even though she knew it could mean never seeing the love of her life again. Caitlyn shows/speaks of how she regrets her actions throughout this season and the ending has her even more determined to right her wrongs.
Fandom: "She's toxic, she doesn't care about anyone"
Look, I am NOT trying to hate on Jinx, I like her and Caitlyn but the latter's my fav. And I know she's capable and has done heroic acts and is complex character who redeemed herself in Vi's eyes. And while I agree that Caitlyn's arc was rushed, I also think a certain section of the fandom overlooks or ignores all of Caitlyn's scenes of regret or the reason behind her initial bad acts. They are NOT excusable but they are reasonable and sympathetic; but despite all of Jinx's action everyone often babies her; I am not making fun of her mental illness or trauma but those are never good reasons to commit crimes or hurt people. And while Jinx did change for the better by the end, unlike Caitlyn, she has never shown to be regretful over her past misdeeds. If you're able to understand and forgive Jinx's war crimes I think you do the same with Caitlyn.
