A pampas fox (Lycalopex gymnocercus) in Urupema, Santa Catarina, Brazil
Despite the name, pampas foxes do not belong to the 'true' fox genus, and are in fact more closely related to wolves and jackals. This genus of South American foxes are often known as zorros or raposa.

Theyβre calling it a red fox but Iβm pretty sure itβs not one, is it a fox at all? Has a very jackal like face but fox like body, thanks! And sorry if this is obvious Iβm just getting into animal identification and Iβm not too good at those of other countries
That is a Culpeo (Lycalopex culpaeus)!
Culpeos are one of the false foxes of South America. Although they look a lot like the true foxes, Vulpes, they are not closely related and are part of their own genus, Lycalopex. A cool fact about Culpeos is they were once fully domesticated by the Yaghan people to create the now extinct Fuegian dog. These dogs were not related to modern day domestic dogs and were their own unique thing. Sadly they were wiped out by European colonisers who saw them as a danger to their livestock.
