The Great Hall of Kiyomizu Dera by Terry Allen Via Flickr: The Kitahossa Buddhist temple at Kiyomizu Dera (Pure Water Temple) was founded in 778 by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro. The Great Hall (Hondo), the best known building on the site, was constructed in 1633 by Tokugawa Iemitsu. Amazingly, not a single nail used in the construction of entire structure. The temple is constructed on Otawa-san (mountain) and there are great views of the city of Kyoto from the porch of the Hondo, seen here at the peak of the autumn leaf colours.
