I’m old and knew OG boomer punks who were old to me that played shows with bands like the Bad Brains and they would laugh at you and call that cringe too.
Punk isn’t necessarily loud. It isn’t necessarily anything. It was usually loud and the distorted guitars and typical drum beats are what we had for 20+ years later— but punk was never, ever about some rulebook aesthetic or formula you “had” to stick to.
Old punk had brass instruments, piano, yes people screaming, or someone humming, music concrete, and other weird shit.
