“Oh, is that all?” He laughs, pushing his hand through his hair. Contradictions upon contradictions. Wasn’t that always the way? Of course, if things were straightforward, these people wouldn’t have called on the Jedi. They were often entrusted with the more convoluted of the galaxy’s many trials. 

“Well.” He smiles, folding his hands comfortably behind his back. “Suppose it’s up to us to figure out which is which, then, isn’t it?” There’s an arch to his brow and a quirk to his lips that hints at his continuing amusement with the situation. Even he’s not sure if it’s a learned optimism or a comfortable gallows humour that motivates his outlook. 

𝐎𝐍𝐄  𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐘  𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐏  𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑  𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑  rang  across  the  medbay.  Ahsoka  tried  to  match  her  breathing  to  it  —  in  and  out  —  until  her  pulse  slowed.  If  only  her  thoughts  would  quiet  with  it.  

Another  glance  to  Barriss’  face  brought  a  fresh  wave  of  anxiety  to  the  young  Padawan.  Serenity  sat  smooth  across  her  olive  features,  a  stark  contrast  to  the  desperation  of  only  a  few  short  hours  ago.  Kill  me,  she  had  begged,  please.  A  chill,  colder  than  anything  they  endured  on  the  ship  ran  down  her  spine  at  the  memory  of  those  pleas.  

And  in  the  end,  she  couldn’t  do  it.
