Failing to Adult
When I was a kid, I had my entire life figured out. I was going to go to college, get a degree in biology, go to veterinary school, and one day own my own practice. Since graduating high school things haven't really gone as planned. I went away to school for a year, and lets just say that didn't go well, so I took the following fall semester off and took a couple classes at a community college in the spring. I thought that went well so I decided to go back to the same college as before the next fall, of 2017. It wasn't as bad as before, but I still hated it. I decided to move home with my parents, which was now a different part of the state, 4 hours from where I grew up and figure out what to do with my life. After living at home for a few weeks I decided I hated it and moved back to where I grew up and started living with my girlfriend and her family. The events of this are a whole other story, but I ended up taking two online classes and getting a job at a vet assistant part time. One night I called my dad in tears because I had no idea what I was doing with my life and I thought I had to have everything figured out and know exactly what I was doing with my life because I'm 20 years old and I should be adulting. He laughed and told me that he didn't know any 20 year olds that were actually adults. I'm still not sure if I believe him, that I don't need my life figured out right now, but I'm trying to go with the flow and figure things out as I go. This is my journey of learning to adult.
