This Filipino American History Month officially marks the end of mango season. 🥭 I know this because I just bought six, hoping for the best, and they're... all rotten. 😭

October is Filipino American History Month (FAHM) and the FAHM 2020 theme is "The History of Filipino American Activism". On October 13, 2020, I was able to participate in a Congressional Gold Medal ceremony in Sacramento, one of many across the country, honoring our valiant Filipino World War II veterans, whose service record was rescinded shortly after the war. A movement for full equity has taken place since then. Pictured here Manong Bert and Manang Luz, past presidents of the Association of Filipino and American World War II Veterans (AFAWVet) and AFAWVet Auxiliary, surrounded by some brothers of Chi Rho Omicron, a Filipino American fraternity. Manong Bert and Manang Luz were 96 years old and married for 74 years in this photo. After coming to US in the late 90s, they worked and maintained jobs and income to provide affidavit of support to petition all of their children. All their children are here today. I met them in the early 2000s when we began organizing for full equity for Filipino World War II veterans and to provide direct services to them along with members of the Bayanihan Clinic, Rizal Lions Club, Filipino Americans in Health Careers (FAHC), Kappa Psi Epsilon, Chi Rho Omicron, Student Action for Veterans Equity (SAVE) and other members of the community. #FilipinoAmericanHistoryMonth #FAHM2020 #FANHS https://www.instagram.com/p/CGS9_oHpPAA/?igshid=11194lmfc7v3d
