It would make sense- he might have known that he would not be able to leave alive unless he used that creepy method of jumping to survive. Deep down, he never really trusted Calla fully. He knew that it would eventually come to the end, that they would have to kill eachother. Besides that was before the yk chapter so they were way more wary about one another.
