When creators say, "Real people with feelings," they only mean other creators. Fans are not real people, and they don't have feelings.

Honestly, my kid's feelings seem more reasonable than Pyro and Maddie's. The reasonable thing to do in Maddie's case is to find a therapist, or for both of them to quit content creation. It is not to try to dictate the actions of hundreds of fans that they don't actually have any authority over in the first place.

if people don't want their characters who are:

byproducts of themselves

being played by the content creator (unlike a character from a novel or videogame that is completely detached from a real person)

to be romantically shipped, then that is a reasonable request. This fandom likes to imagine that every cc is completely detached from their characters.

When you are acting that character, a little part of you goes into it. Especially when YOU specifically designed that character. If you find that it makes your skin crawl to have someone else randomly on the internet shipping what you might consider as a part of yourself with someone who you're friends with, then its your right to tell them to stop.

I get being bummed or upset. I get feeling like you have to attatch to something new or start somewhere else. That's fine. If you created work that means that much to you, then just rename the characters and remodel your work to OCs. I promise you, the internet is not a void hole where you work floats in the ether and no consequences stem from it.

That's explicitly not what Pyroscythe and Milkberry are demanding. They are demanding that all shipping content stop everywhere, including abandoning WIPs - on pain of harassment.

They don't have the authority to demand that, and it's overall a dick move. And yes I'm extra mad because it disrespected my kid. There's no justification for telling a teenager to throw out a novel she's been working on for months, months during which her content was endorsed by the creator of the character involved. None.

I haven't entirely looked through Pyro's response beyond seeing the main statement he made that everyone's talking about, and frankly, I have very little to say about it.

From what I saw, I don't believe he threatened harassment intentionally. Nor do I think he's threatening to bully fans off the internet. Though many community members seemed to have taken it that way, I believe he moreso meant that if he or anyone he's adjacently in contact with finds ship art, he will report it.

Again, I have very little to say on this and haven't watched the VOD, but I'd like to assume that some content creators aren't crazy enough to publicly doxx or call out fans making ship art. I'd like to hope there's still a level of reasonability behind their actions, but I suppose only time will tell amongst other things.

However, bottom line, if a creator doesn't want ship fics/art created then they deserve to have that respected. If your kid is working on this novel and is proud of it, then there's a few reasonable options I can think of that still fit creator's personal comfort boundaries and work for your kid:

create the work for themself and do not share it online (though I understand why this may not be the favorable option)

make the characters OCs! Rename them, maybe give them a few different traits, whatever has to be done. Claim that they were INSPIRED by the original characters (who I'm assuming were majorscythe).

I get feeling hurt, but I'd encourage people to view this matter as less of revolving around boundaries and more around being a matter of consent. I think when romance is involved, and usually followed through with more explicit content, if someone says no then that should be respected.
