Family and Friends August - Can We Keep It?
Okay, this prompt immediately reminded me of the story of how the boys got Juliet... which somehow I haven’t told on here yet?? Now’s as good a time as any, I guess :3 Especially since today happens to be National Black Cat Appreciation Day! Perfect timing :D (even though this prompt is still SUPER late omg)
One day, Shinsou was out biking, when he spotted a cat laying on the side of the bike trail
There was no way he was gonna pass up the opportunity to befriend a cat, so he propped up his bike, sat under a nearby tree and started playing on his phone
He knows that cats are more likely to approach you if you’re sitting quietly and doing your own thing, but he may have also set out a small snack as extra incentive :p
It eventually worked, and the cat slowly started to approach Shinsou
As it got closer, there were a few things Shinsou noticed- it had no collar, it was dirty, and most notably, it was limping
Of course, Shinsou immediately had compassion for the cat, but he wanted to take a little more time to get to know it better before trying to take it home
After a while, Shinsou learned a couple things- 1. this cat is actually quite affectionate, and 2. it’s a girl!
Needless to say, he was in love, no going back, he and this cat had already bonded XD
When it was time to go home, he took off his jacket, used it to line the bike basket, put the cat in there and pedaled on home
When he brought his new little friend through the door, he was met with mixed reception- Denki was enamored with the cute kitty, but Mashirao “Responsible Dad Friend” Ojiro was more apprehensive
(kind of ironic, since he’s the one with the fluffy tail here XD )
While he did eventually agree to at least let her stay until her leg was better, he’d rather not keep a cat long-term... after all, they’re already buying food for three people and the neighborhood stray cats that Shinsou insists on feeding, they’re all busy with their hero careers, and besides, what if she has rabies or someth- ...well, she is pretty cute... but...
You wouldn’t expect a guy like Shinsou to be capable of pulling off such good puppy-dog eyes, but when it comes to cats, he has his ways XD
Ojiro: “*sigh* All right... but she’s your cat, so you take care of her.”
He and Denki had never seen Shinsou smile that brightly before
After a trip to the vet to get her leg checked out, they learned that she was healthy and not chipped- Shinsou was thrilled to hear the news
The rest of the day involved all kinds of new pet shenanigans- scrambling to the pet store to buy supplies, all three boys working together to wrangle the cat and give her a bath, all that jazz
After things had calmed down a bit, the four of them were all chilling on the couch together, when Denki suddenly realized something they had overlooked
Denki: “Hey, Toshi, have you picked out a name for her yet?”
Shinsou: “I haven’t decided yet... got any ideas?”
Denki: “Mmm...*smirks* How about Fiona?”
Shinsou: “...”
Shinsou: “Denki. We are NOT naming this cat after a Shrek character.”
Denki: “Haha! I’m kidding, I’m kidding!”
Denki: “...or am I?”
Shinsou: “nO-”
You know Denki, he’s all about those memes XD
The boys all tossed around various name ideas for a while, until Denki glanced over at one of the books resting on the table, and it gave him an idea
Denki: “Hey, how about Juliet?”
Everyone agreed that it was a lovely name- a refined choice for a sweet and graceful black cat like her, plus the classic “and Juliet is the sun” quote fit her disposition pretty well
And with that, Juliet was officially a part of the family
It didn’t take long for everyone to get attached to her- even the formerly skeptical Ojiro found himself endeared to the way Juliet snuggled up to him for warmth, and played with his tail more than any of her cat toys
(even if it did get kind of distracting when he was trying to do something)
Likewise, Juliet took to Denki like he was her kitten, curling up on his back for naps and even licking him sometimes... that hurt a tiny bit, but it still made him feel so loved
Naturally, Juliet made plenty of appearances on Denki’s vlog and Shinsou’s Instagram over time... who said black cats can’t be photogenic? All these views definitely proved otherwise :D
Not to mention the new offers for licensed hero merch in pet stores...
All the boys are glad to have Juliet around... she definitely lives up to her name and makes their days sunny ^u^
