The next morning, as soon as Rayne had left for work, Sarah rushed to the pharmacy to get a pregnancy test. With trembling hands she unpacked the test and sat down on the toilet. Minutes seemed ages as she waited for the result and when the lines appeared, Sarah gasped.
Rayne got home earlier than usual and Sarah was actually relieved she could talk to him sooner. He found her in their bedroom.
Rayne (smiling): "Hey Beautiful, you feeling ok?"
Sarah (taking a deep deep breath): "Rayne, I'm... I'm pregnant..."
Rayne (staring at her): "..."
Sarah (trembling with insecurity and panic now she had told him the news, fighting tears and a very poorly timed wave of nausea): "I've been prescribed those "Baby-Maybe-Later" pills for a long time now and they didn't give me nasty side effects and I was content and I, I trusted that they worked. I would like other kids with you, 'cause you're an amazing father, but the twins are so much already and I know it's not easy for you to stay and now there's another one coming and I'm sorry and I'm afraid and I don't want you to go, but I don't want to force you to stay and..."
Rayne (still staring at her): "..."
Sarah (her panic going in overdrive now): "... I'm pregnant, Rayne, it's happening again and I don't know what to do. Please say something, anything."
Still silent, Rayne slowly brought his hand towards her face and gently stroke the back of his fingers against her cheeks. A dreamy look in his eyes. Rayne's touch stopped Sarah word vomit and she stared back at him, not knowing what her lover was thinking. He was so calm, so silent. She felt her stomach shrink. Was he... Was he saying goodbye? She couldn't move, just stare and wait.
"You're so beautiful," Rayne broke the silence. Sarah blinked, this wasn't a sentence she had expected. What was he going to do?
Then Rayne smiled. "I kinda thought you were pregnant again. You have that glow again. And I recognised the brand of you birth control." Sara, still unable to move, a whirlpool of nausea and anxiety in her tummy, whispered: "You're not surprised? Are you... staying?"
Rayne chuckled softly as he spoke softly: "Of course I'm staying. I love you, I love our children. I need you Sarah, more than you probably realise. Don't worry about that dumb Non-committal trait of mine, as long as I have some kind of change in my life, it'll be no problem... We can do this, together."
With a sigh of relief, Sarah moved towards him to embrace him. "I love you, Rayne Dreamer, I love you so much." "Great," Rayne said after planting a gentle kiss behind her ear, "because I do need a big change now... Let's move out."
