Hi, my name is Mo. I used to rp a Komaeda and i was pretty certain with my understanding of him except for the special episode that was never aired on tv. I have talked with sinny a bit but i would like your own perspective of that episode.
Hello! So, I wasn’t sure if you were referring to the 2.5 OVA or not, but I am gonna assume you are so sorry in advance if you weren’t.
So, I feel like that OVA gives us a lot of perspective into Komaeda’s inner workings. Now, the fundamental thing you have to remember about Komaeda is that he lives in total denial. The OVA dives into what I would say his true feelings are.
I’m gonna use some screencaps for this but let’s start in general with his talent.
In the OVA, Nagito is the only person with a talent (even though the other characters are pretty much unchanged but this is how he makes it sounds ok) and it’s luck. Except, his luck cycle doesn’t exist. It’s ONLY bad luck.
He gets totally maimed and it gets even worse later. He gets abused by the entire world, which isn’t so different from his normal life but without the “rewards”.
But even in the game, we can see the clear… oddness in the way he paints past events. For example, the deaths of his parents. They die right in front of him and his ‘good luck’ is getting their fortune. But… that’s just what happens when your parents die. It wasn’t LUCKY really. So Nagito is in denial. Yes, his luck does some amazing things. Getting kidnapped and finding the lottery ticket is one of those things.
And in the OVA, Nagito is optimistic about his luck. But doesn’t it seem a lot like he must see it as BAD LUCK? If in his imaginary world made to cope with his death, he doesn’t have good luck EVER.
In the OVA, Komaeda shoulders the Bad Luck for others so they can have more Good Luck. This is a clear sign of him trying to cope with his shitty life, but it also is similar to him wanting to be a stepping stone for hope. Nagito wants to be useful and good. He hates himself and thinks the only way for him to purge that hate is to be useful. Since he has no talent, he wants to be useful to those that CAN help the world. Nagito is too arrogant to want happiness with himself, and hating yourself makes you feel like you don’t deserve that. Thus his martyr complex. He feels like the only way his life is worth anything is if he is used for something. Nagito wants to make the world a better place, but he hates himself too much to see any way for him to do it. He also thinks on far too big of a scale.
I always feel like Komaeda WANTS to be important. After all, that’s the world Hopes Peak Academy breeds. The mindset of people like Komaeda, who view themselves as worthless because they aren’t talented, and Hinata, someone who thinks being talented will make him more confident and happy, is all because of the fucked up culture of Ultimates.
I think the way he talks about himself in his fake world shows a lot. Plus, let me say that Komaeda... As arrogant as he is, as much as he WANTS to be important and matter, still doesn’t give himself talent in his fake world. He literally.... has himself get constantly abused and still in the same situation as before. Not only does Nagito hate himself enough to have his life be terrible in his pretend world, he also doesn’t even see his talent as a good thing aside from sacrificing himself.
It shows how sad of a person he is. Like honestly, he doesn’t see anything good in his future at all.
Also, look how soft of a boy he is...
BUT BACK TO THE POINT
Not only do I believe that Nagito secretly HATES talent and how it controls everyone. I think that when he talks about talent in the OVA, he’s talking about his OWN talent. After all, his talent has literally made him miserable.
This is something we never expect to hear Komaeda say. But I think that he honestly believes this. That people without talent can find happiness. In fact, they may be MORE able to. Which would add to WHY he hates them so much. He doesn’t hate them... He sees himself as a nobody, but at the same time he does have his luck.
Is it obvious he hates his own talent yet?
But what about talent in general?
So Nagito HATES talent. Can you blame him? Without Talent, people would all be happy. They wouldn’t have to worry about being worthy or meaningful. Without talent, Ultimate Despair and his friends’ suffering would be far less serious. He believes that. Even if he denies it later.
He also doesn’t even know what ‘hope’ is. Likely BECAUSE of the despair brainwashing. Regardless, I think that’s a nice little touch.
So WE know that there is SOME truth to what Nagito said inside the OVA. Even if he wants to deny it. Basically, this isn’t surprising because denial is a major coping mechanism for Nagito.
So I’m saying that the OVA offers a very deep exploration of what Nagito wants but also DOESN’T THINK HE WANTS. His regrets and the world he SORT OF wishes he had.
But he will NEVER admit this.
But you know, I don’t think there’s nothing to be taken from it. I think it does a lot to show how Nagito feels about his OWN talent and talent in general. As well as how much he actually cares about his friends considering he checked out after only like 5 of them got killed. But yeah
Anyway, there is my incoherent not helpful explanation of how I use the OVA to understand the part of Nagito he doesn’t understand about himself.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk. Hope this wasn’t a total waste of time for you!

“Man, I wonder how much longer ‘til we get to Goldenrod City.” He leaned against the side of the train as he lazily turned to look out the window.
“Is this your first time visiting Johto, too...? I’ve never even been outside of Unova before.” He admitted. “I’m from Nimbasa City, how about you...?”
If this train ride was going to be a while then why not try to make conversation with a possible fellow trainer...?
I am surprised how many good shows are coming out this season. For so long, I have passed season after season because only maybe...one show appealed to me...but this season I'm like, oh wait, I really wouldn't mind watching like 10 different shows.
It’s the same for me. I’m watching WIXOSS, Boueibu, P5, Caligula and Magical Girl Ore so far, and am planning to get caught up with My Hero Academia too. The diverse remakes of old shows coming out interest me too... I guess I’m just a sucker for nostalgia. Either way, I am really enjoying this so far. My inner nerd is pleased.
As far as Caligula goes, so far so good. So really good. That's all I will tell. :)
I’ve watched and well, as far as the Anime goes, so far I’m rather happy! You can definitely tell that the writing shares common DNA with Persona (duh) but it also does it’s own thing. If this keeps up, I might actually check out the remake of the game that’s coming out (marketing success?)

Her first performance here in Inaba which was something she was excited about however she was programmed to keep an eye out for anything that caused some red flags and her breaking from her undercover could release her real mission as to why she was here which would blow up in her face, so she stayed to the real plan that was given to her and focus on the concert at hand.
While walking to the stage in the park she managed to make it but in a glance she saw a very familiar face on the stage, “...Onii-Chan?” She questioned but went from behind the stage to ready herself in her attire she was going to wear. “..He’s actually here? But why..? Is he under the mission as I am?” She asked watching.
