There is no way Stefan & Elena still have complete trust in each other. In Seasons 1 & 2 Stefan repeatedly lied to Elena or omitted the truth when telling her things about himself. Here are a few examples;
He lied about how much he knew about her, that he'd followed her & 'observed' her for months - This behaviour is just creepy. I don't care that she looked like Katherine, he basically stalked her for months on end before deciding he "had to know her" even though he knew that in doing that he would be putting her in danger...
He entered into a relationship with her without telling her he was a vampire - He gave her no choice to accept him for who he was, this omission is pretty goddamn big when someones considering a relationship with you...
He did not mention the fact that she was the exact carbon copy of his ex-girlfriend Katherine until after he'd slept with her AND she'd found a picture of Katherine in his bedroom - Can you say shitty behaviour? I'd be pretty freaking pissed if that happened to me, not to mention I'd be questioning every aspect of the relationship because does he really love Elena for Elena or is it just because of her resemblance to Katherine? That's what Elena had to go through...
He didn't mention the fact that he's a vampire with serious blood issues & when he loses control he literally rips peoples heads off - Again, pretty big omission & then he also lies to her when he does fall off the wagon in Season 1 & tells her he has it under control when it's pretty goddamn clear at the MMFP that he really doesn't (Remember the Amber incident?)
He neglected to mention the fact that they'd met before when he saved her from drowning (little lie but still important for her to know)
Stefan knew about Elena's adoption but he didn't tell her until circumstances made it impossible for him not to...
He neglected to mention that he'd killed half of the founding families when he'd turned, including his own father, & that he was the reason Damon had turned (Elena had to find this out from Damon then confront him about it)
They're the ones I can think of off of the top of my head but there's probably more and that's just in the first couple of Seasons. Even if you were to disregard those there's still at least one major reason why Elena can never fully trust Stefan again.
Stefan forced Elena to drink his blood then threatened to drive her off of the exact same bridge she'd already almost died on & that she'd lost her parents on too. He wasn't compelled. He knew what he was doing. He knew how deep her emotional scars about that place were, he didn't care, he decided revenge on Klaus was more important.
I don't care how you spin it, there is no way that this has not permanently affected Elena's trust in Stefan. She blamed herself for her parents death, she always has, and for Stefan to exploit her pain for his own selfish desire to get revenge on Klaus because he had to make it 'believable' is not only disgusting but, to me, shows that his feelings & his need to come out on top were more important than the feelings of someone he truly loves.
I'm not forgetting about the Season 4 lies and the reasons behind them, but Stefan could have told her, like he did with Damon, in a way that was necessary to Klaus' agenda being kept on track. Klaus didn't kill Damon because he realised it was beneficial in having him know.
Stefan should have told Elena about Connor. He should have told her about the cure. He should have told her about Klaus' intention to turn Elena back into a human blood bag. He should have told her about what Jeremy's involvement in it would be. He should have told her how he forced Jeremy to kill another vampire (who was human until Stefan decided to turn him) & in the process endangered her life & the lives of half of her friends by making Jeremy complete his hunters mark. But he didn't. He didn't even try.
I think Damon's reasons for not trusting Stefan are pretty justifiable. Stefan has been working with Klaus. Klaus. The person who killed Elena & Jenna, possessed Alaric, forced Stefan to revert to his ripper ways & turn off his emotions, forced Tyler to bite Caroline, attempted (twice) to drain Elena of all her blood & killed Tyler's mum. It's not like Stefan's been the poster child for honesty...
I would also like to know when Damon told Elena not to trust Stefan? Either I blanked out that particular line or it never actually happened...
Yes, Elena felt guilty that Stefan didn't know she kissed Damon but you neglected to mention the fact that she didn't feel guilty that it happened...only that Stefan didn't know that it did, so what's your point?
Again, she felt guilty he didn't know, not that it happened and it was Stefan who told her he didn't want to know, so how is that Elena's fault? She tried, he didn't want to listen.
The sire bond did not cause the mistrust, Stefan's actions caused the mistrust. Elena knew she would disappoint him if she didn't stick to the animal blood. She knew it would upset him if he knew she couldn't keep it down. Instead of letting her be her own version of a vampire, Stefan forced Elena to go down the 'Stefan approved path' of resistance, denial & rejection. A path which we've all seen doesn't actually work & would only make Elena more likely to fly off of the rails and become a ripper herself.
My reasons for saying Stelena's love is not lasting or fufilling are pretty clearly stated in my original post. They are (sorry, were) in a relationship that neither saw clearly. Elena did not fully know Stefan, I still don't think she does, whilst they were together. She saw the side Stefan presented to her. The side that seriously began falling apart in Season 3. Similarly, Stefan loves the girl Elena became after her parents died. That is not her. She's continuously said that she changed when they died. She became less fun, things that mattered then stopped mattering now etc...
"We should love the person that makes us feel alive" that does not mean we do nor does it only apply to one person. Stefan might make her feel alive but that doesn't mean Damon doesn't too.
Yes, she also said Stefan was the best choice she ever made but there could have been several reasons for this;
She thought she was dying permanently
She wanted to comfort him
She wanted him to "have hope"
She made the choice because it's what she thought, at the time, was right
It doesn't mean her feelings can't change. It doesn't mean the choice was permanent. It doesn't mean the choice was the one she truly wanted to make. Just because she thinks it was the best choice, doesn't make it the right one.
The actual quote was; "I can be with you forever, if I want." Stelena shippers seem to have a habit of missing out the full quote when they use this as an argument.Â
When she chose Stefan, she was human. She was going to live one lifetime, 80 more years tops, if she was lucky. She made her choice with that in mind. She never made her choice thinking about forever. If she had, it may have been different.
I have (watched?) listened to the dialogue. I do actually watch the show properly. That's why my arguments are thought out, reasoned & backed up with examples, so, sorry, but I think it's you who needs to 'try again'.
