Ooooh I know why you asked this question specifically. Let me explain.

So “Deadlocked” is a song by music artist F-777 that released on the 18th of September, 2012. It’s a “house” song, meaning it’s from a genre of energetic electronic dance music.

By itself, it’s pretty good! I listened to it myself after you asked this, and my personal favorite part after listening is the slow-paced beep-y and woop-y part before the second drop from 1:54 to 2:37.

However, the song is also pretty inconsequential. At least it WAS, until RobTop Games asked if he could use the song in his 2013 game Geometry Dash. F-777 agreed, and on August 2015, the level “Deadlocked” was released to the public.

It’s the 20th “official level”, meaning that it’s a level in the “main campaign” that RobTop himself made, instead of being a custom level that another user made.

It’s only available in Geometry Dash, and not in any of its free alternatives like Geometry Dash Lite or Geometry Dash World. And it’s “demon-difficulty”, the hardest difficulty for a level to be in the game.

Together, the song and level work great. The song sounds great in the level, and the level is great because of the song.

Now, to show you gameplay of Deadlocked, how do you think I would do it? I mean, it’s the hardest difficulty in the game; you think I would use someone else’s recording? Do you think I would use a GIF by someone else?

Turns out being rated the hardest difficulty in the game isn’t all it’s cracked up to be anymore! By 2017 so many levels were rated “demon” that RobTop had to add a new rating system for demons to divide them further.

These subdivisions were “easy demon”, “medium demon”, “hard demon”, “insane demon”, and “extreme demon”: extreme demon now being the hardest difficulty in the game. On the modern rating scale, Deadlocked would probably be rated a “medium demon”.

So now you can see how the song and level complement each other! The scariness and fast pace of the song match the scariness and fast pace of the level.

At this point, I don’t think of the song as a separate entity anymore. To me, it’s just what exists within the level. It’s the part that gives the drop and the slow bit and the fast bit of the level it’s meaning.
