Here is a list of blogs I’ve really enjoyed in 2018! A lot of them are hockey, so thanks to you all for fueling something that brings me so much joy and pain.

there’s been such a good like, renaissance of indie girl led groups and i LOVE it so please rec me stuff if you know any

that will happen when blogs get deleted or suspended. it really sucks

god katy this is so fucking difficult!!!! i’m gonna try to do this cinefix style and break it into categories and then pick an example.

romcom ending: i’m a sucker for romcoms and is there anything better than an ending where you’re clutching your chest and there’s a tear in your eye? for this one i’m gonna have to go with You’ve Got Mail. “I wanted it to be you, I wanted it to be you so badly.” 😩

music moment (non-musical): i love movies that incorporate an iconic music moment. whether it be from the soundtrack or diegetic music, there’s something moving about having a specific song take you away. for this i’m gonna say, the “Tiny Dancer” singalong in Almost Famous.

moments that make you sob: as much as i love the high of a poignant musical moment, the catharsis of a good cry is just as great. is there anything more heartbreaking than [SPOILER] Tommy finding out that the deferral isn’t real in Never Let Me Go? from the scene where he’s showcasing his art and learning that The Gallery was just to see if the children had souls at all to his silent screaming outside of the car, Andrew Garfield really killed his performance. 

bittersweet ending: like i said, romcom endings are special to me but i love also the ache in my heart from a bittersweet ending. the ending that isn’t as bad as it could be but it’s not exactly happy either. my pick is Weekend, a fantastic british film from director Andrew Haigh. [SPOILER] the film makes you fall in love with Russell and Glen but in the end they still only have the weekend together. 

aesthetics: this is a very broad category but there’s not just ONE moment i can pick from the film so i’m going big baby! In the Mood for Love is a tour de force of perfect aesthetics. From costuming to lighting to soundtrack to camera movement, there is nothing about this film that isn’t an absolute treat to watch. (you can also slot this film into the bittersweet ending category so it’s really a 2-for-1 choice)
