The only time it's snowed here was when we first arrived at Lake Louise. I had seen this place before in so many pictures but nothing can prepare you for how beautiful it is in person. We had the whole place to ourselves, needless to say it was magical ❄️when we reached the top of our 5k hike up the mountain the sun came out and the clouds lifted and it quite literally took my breath away. If you ever want to be humbled in the best way possible, come here. I'm already planning my trip back to see it in the summer! 📸: @brypanchuk #explorecanada #exploreYYC #banffnationalpark (at Lake Louise, Alberta)

Belly Up ramen, Gorilla Whale, Calgary, 4/10. Canada Post are due to go on strike shortly and I'm not actually sure we'll even notice a difference in service quality. I don't think they've been "showing up to work" for as long as I've been unfortunate enough to not receive my mail in a timely fashion via their team of sloths with their shoelaces tied together. Similarly, if this ramen chef hadn't shown up to work today would anyone have tasted the difference? Bung half a stock cube in distilled water and hand it to a postal sloth on a square wheeled scooter. With luck by the time it's delivered old age dementia will have robbed their memories of broth flavour and they'll simply be satisfied to not die of thirst. #porkbelly #ramen #exploreyyc #explorecalgary #calgaryfood #yycfood #yyceats #yyclife #food #foodporn #digestdigress (at Gorilla Whale) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpODoKTgltR/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1lzssxcgrfppp

Must Try Canadian Foods
By Haya
August 14,2017
POUTINE:
Originating from Quebec, Poutine is as Canadian as it gets. Crispy french-fries and cheese curds topped with gravy make it a very popular comfort food. Check out the following places for the best Poutine in Calgary!
Universe Restaurant (Their Montreal Smoked Meat Poutine is yet to be topped!)
The Big Cheese Poutinerie
TOURTIERE:
A Quebecois dish, Tourtiere is a meat pie that is traditionally served during Christmas and New Year’s Eve dinner. The filling can be fish, beef, pork, rabbit and/or game depending on regional availability. You can find Tourtiere at the Calgary Farmer’s Market booth called A Taste of Quebec.
MAPLE SYRUP:
Canadians LOVE their maple syrup. We eat it on pancakes, cook with it and even have it iced on a stick. Cora’s Breakfast and Lunch is definitely a go to for a pancake brunch.
BEAVERTAILS:
Don’t be fooled by the name of this Canadian classic; it is not an actual beaver tail! Consisting of a pastry that can be customized with your preference of toppings, it is definitely a favourite. You can check their Facebook page here to find out where the Beavertail truck is around Calgary.
NANAIMO BARS:
This no bake dessert is a delicious creamy bar named after the city of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. It can be found in most grocery stores, but Sunterra market does it best! They are also available on campus at La Prep in MacEwan Student Centre.
BANNOCK:
Bannock is a type of bread that is traditional to many indigenous communities in Canada. It can be made in many different ways, both sweet and savoury, depending on different families and nations. If you want to try making them click here for an easy recipe. For convenient store bought Bannock, head to Giant Tiger for their Bannock in a Box.
TIMBITS:
Previously thought to be the ‘centre of a donut’, Timbits are a must try dessert. Not only are they cheap, but also delicious! Walk over to one of the 4 Tim Hortons right here on campus and try this Canadian treat.
CAESAR:
This popular drink was invented in 1969 right here in Calgary at what is now known as The Westin Hotel. Stop by to try the Caesar that started it all!
KETCHUP CHIPS & ALL DRESSED CHIPS:
You may or may not have heard of Ketchup flavoured chips and All Dressed chips, but they are a common Canadian snack. They can be found in grocery or convenience stores and are sold at The Stor on campus.
