[Lee Jeung Seop Art Street 2] Was a little surprised, found that Jeju have woman divers too, just like Ise Shima National Park, Japan, where I am involved in an internship now. In Japan we call them Ama divers while in Korea they call them Haenyeo. Actually last year I met some of Haenyeo here in Toba while they visited their "sisters" here. But I didn't know that they came from Jeju Island too. Appreciating woman divers, I loved to have this night candle from the Lee Jeung Seop Art Street. So now before sleeping I enjoyed seeing woman divers in my room π. #jeju #jejuisland #southkorea #korea #ama #amadivers #womandivers #sumbiisland #explorejeju #leejeungseopstreet #artstreet #streetpictures #nightcandle #candle #haenyeo #panasoniclumix
[Lee Jung Seop Art Street] The last night I spent in Korea, I went around the hotel and found Lee Jung Seop Street. It is a street full of paintings and other art products sold (mainly handmade). If you are interested in Korean culture you might like that street. Unfortunately it was too late that some shops had been closed. Then in the morning, before we check out to the airport, I woke early, packed my bag, posted some postcards I have written (I bought them from the art streets), I went there again. And then I got to visit the Lee Jung Seop Museum. So I found that the street's name came from a Korean famous painters name Lee Jung Seop. He was born in North Korea then took art School in Tokyo where then he met his wife. Marriage between Korean and Japanese was difficult that time so he moved and locked themselves in Seogwipo, Jeju Island. It was the hardest time for their family, minimum foods. He got no job. But it was the happiest time that he could be more productive making paintings, most of them became legends now. What a story! I visited the museum and saw his paintings. He made modern style of paintings. Most of them told about family, house, and farm. One of them have Japanese writings inside. Took a picture with the famous bull paintings. I'm glad that then I could visit his old house. It was a very old traditional Korean house among fine buildings in Seogwipo city, South Korean. #jeju #septakekorea #visitjeju #korea #southkorea #jejuisland #seogwipo #jungseoplee #leejungseopstreet #artstreet #paintings #explorejeju #explorekorea
