BEAUTIFUL THING ALERT:
I checked the aurora borealis forecast days ago through the Alaska Geophysical Institute, and was excited to see it predicted “active” KP-4 level auroras on 3/27 and 3/28. Anyone who knows me well knows that I am obsessed with the aurora borealis, and that one of my life goals is to see them in person. Well, for now I found the next best thing via explore.org and their real time aurora cam in Churchill, Manitoba, which is smack dab in the path of the auroral oval. Tonight I was so disappointed to see that the forecast had changed from KP-4 “active” to KP-2 “low”. I waited all week to see this. I NEEDED this. My soul needed it. I turned off the cam and went to bed to read. I found myself still awake around 11:30, and turned the cam back on to see a faint green aurora in the sky. That rapidly turned into the most spellbinding sight I have ever seen, and for the next hour or so I got those auroras I had wanted so badly. If this is KP-2 I can’t even imagine KP-4. This was like seeing heaven. And I may have ugly cried because everything is scary right now, and this was a literal light in the dark. Be still, my soul.
