EXPLODING WITH JOY
THEY ASKED JOHN TWO OF THE QUESTIONS I EMAILED IN FOR THE INTERVIEW AND I EXPLODED WITH JOY. EXPLODED.
First they asked my question about his cameras. He said he actually got rid of a lot of his cameras because his collection was "taking over"--that made me sad! But he still has his favourite ones and he still loves using them so that's the important thing--I'm more interested in how much he loves them than the actual number he has. I mean, I don't have that many myself but I still love them and that's the important thing. Then he said he takes a lot of pictures of buildings which I do a ton of too!!! And he said his favourite cameras are from the '30s to the '50s which mine are too!!! So it made me SO HAPPY to hear we don't just both love vintage cameras we actually have more overlap in the specifics of our love of them.
I expected them to only ask that question because they were getting so many other questions in Miscellaneous T, but then later they asked my books question too!!! They tacked one someone else asked for Flans about "can you recommend something for my book club" on to the end of it (without saying they were from different people) but the first half was my part about what he's been reading lately/what the best book is that he's read this year/what genres he reads the most. He said something like "there are nerdy books and there are beautiful poetic books," and he said he reads a lot of nonfiction. He talked about this series of political books about the right by this historian named Rick Perlman--he talked about those in another interview too so he must really love them. Then he talked about another book called Flatland which he said he first read when he was 15 but he re-read it recently, it's a story about a square he said and there's a lot of math stuff but he said there's also social commentary. Hearing something is math-related kinda automatically makes me wanna stay away (I was an English major so y'know) but I will try reading it for you, John.
I'm not exaggerating when I say this is one of the most exciting things that has ever happened to me in my entire life. I have met him in person before but I could barely form coherent sentences in his divine presence so I never got to say anything real to him those times. Then there was a thing with asking him another time about what he's reading on Twitter when they were backstage at Conan and Flans was taking questions for him, and that was really exciting too, but it was a really brief answer. This is the first time in fifteen years of loving him that I've gotten to ask him anything of substance and gotten real in-depth answers from him, and I seriously cannot even put into words how exciting it was for me. I am seriously over the fucking moon right now y'all.
Someone also asked him about what they're going to be doing next year and like Flans in his earlier interview he said they're working on a project right now, but he made it sound a lot more mysterious. He said it's "top-secret" and he can't talk about it but it's "different than anything they've ever done before", WHAT. When Flans talked about it he was just like "oh yeh we're working on stuff right now" and I was out of my mind with excitement, but after the way John put it I'm out of my mind with curiosity. Goddammit John! I can't handle this suspense! But I’m just SO FUCKING HAPPY to hear they’re working on something right now and Flans also said they are planning to tour next year too. I was seriously heartbroken about the idea of not getting any new music (because their music is my life) or shows (because I'm happier at their shows than I could ever possibly be anywhere else) for a couple of years, so I’m ecstatic to hear that isn’t going to be the case.
Can't cope with this excitement. More keita intrazone :)
