Having pClea brain worms really makes you desperate enough to create an entire AU for her just because there really is only so much you can explore regarding her overpaint đ„č
But I'm having fun(?) because it really is fascinating to explore how a character like Clea would deal with an experience that's basically tailor made to break her brain with a near total loss of control of everything. And then coming out of that experience and having to deal with the messy aftermath of something that was meant to be final.
Also I'm not involving the original Clea directly I think she'd not try to intervene with pClea because then it'd look like she got #owned and is mad about it so she refuses to show she's a poor loser. If Maelle could pull off the feat of severing her tie to pClea then sure, fine. But I do think if/when she learns that despite coming back wrong and being "useless" and having to rely on others for help pClea is still loved. She's being a burden and she's still valued as she is. Much to think about :/

I have been in the pClea Rehabilitation AU mines for the past few weeks so here's something from it. I've been thinking about all the seemingly mundane ways that'd be really challenging for her to get used to. Going through her own wardrobe and having a really negative reaction to how her own clothes look on her now is not the worst of her worries, but I also think it's way more distressing than you'd imagine.

Okay here's some kind of overview post for the painted Clea Rehabilitation AU I have been lowkey obsessed with lately. I should have thought of a better name for it because rehab AU might sound misleading but alas.
Anyway tl;dr pClea can be saved but she comes back wrong and makes it everyone's problem (and they want to help her get used to "normal" life) đ
Also I love monsters and I think pClea is a type of Creature and I'm leaning super heavily into it.
DISCLAIMER this really could not happen. I donât even know if itâs possible to erase overpaint in this setting. Iâm making things up as I go and Iâm generally more interested in using it as a pClea character study than as a solid independent story.
General overview
Une Vie Ă RĂȘver type of âbest of both worldsâ setup, which obviously couldnât happen in the game. The canon divergence begins when instead of fighting pClea head on they do a tactical retreat to discuss their options.
The solution to freeing pClea from Cleaâs grasp is to remove the overpaint rather than paint her over again. This is entirely made up by me and somewhat based on art restoration procedures. It also borrows from Maelleâs Gommage and what happened to her with the whole Alicia/Maelle merging.
Essentially, pClea is reassembled with almost-Gommage by Maelle and she just hopes itâs going to be enough because she has no experience with this. Telling my 16-year-old to perform a brain surgery and hope she doesnât scoop out half of pCleaâs brain in the process.
Maelle does manage to remove enough of the overpaint to severe Cleaâs direct tie to pClea, but there is still a lot of overpaint left. This is why pClea ends up looking fairly monstrous.
Like Maelle in ACT 3, pClea now remembers both lives she has lived. The difference is she has now lived most of her life essentially as a Nevron compared to the time she lived as human, and she still retains some distinctively nonhuman qualities because the restoration was so barebones.
Iâm a monster freak and incredibly self indulgent about it so half of the fun of this AU is to imagine how sheâd think and feel and interact with the world according to those nonhuman aspects of her. pClea writing can be borderline xenofiction if you open your heart <3
Painted Verso, Alicia and Clea get to live, and their immortality is eventually removed so they can have a normal human lifespan. The AU generally centers around the painted siblings trying to get pClea used to regular living in the aftermath of a tonally very different âLife to Paintâ ending*. A lot of it happens in the painted family manor but also in LumiĂšre.
*Maelle initially stays in the Canvas, but eventually leaves by her own choice. I like to imagine that helping the remaining painted family and watching them struggle on despite everything convinces her that healing is possible, even if it was just the scars in her heart. So this is almost like a transition from Life to Paint ending to Life to Love, but the Canvas gets to stay. Because I say so. Why am I even trying to explain an ending that literally could not happen.
Also hereâs some quick pClea primers
Iâm interpreting her through the lens of her having been a type of (Cleaâs) Nevron, and a lot of here is based on my observations + dialogue on both regular and White Nevrons.
At the very start she doesnât speak or make any voluntary noise whatsoever. It takes her weeks to make Any kind of purposeful noise, months before she says a single word, and years for her to have an elaborate and fluid conversation with someone. She and pAlicia understand each other well non-verbally.
Sheâs not as strong as she was when working for Clea but sheâs still stronger than a regular human, and she can summon spectral Nevrons in a limited capacity. Nevrons still recognize her as something almost like them and related to their Mistress, but she isnât able to meaningfully control them. However, Nevrons generally donât try to hurt her.
Sheâs dealing with several problems and a lot of them are not easy or quick fixes. The world has changed from the one she remembers before her overpainting, both of her parents are gone, sheâs struggling with her own identity and how people perceive her, and sheâs just generally very overwhelmed with a lot of things after so many years of solitude. But sheâs fighting back because it would piss Clea off and it gives her strength to continue :)
Simon will be there (though not at the start) but my focus is less on romance and more on them sort of resetting their relationship and âstarting overâ because they both have been altered to a dramatic degree. I like the idea that they could help and support each other trying to overcome a problem thatâs very unique to them.

Is this a safe space. Can I ask a stupid question. Are we collectively associating Simon with horses because of the whole Ludwig the Accursed/Holy Blade resemblance or is there just some inherent quality to him that makes people look at him and go "horse"
