•kisses where one person is sitting in the other’s lap (for nolden bc you've said before there's a lack of lap sitting and i agree)
He hadn't meant to doze, he really hadn't. Holden didn't even know he'd fallen asleep until he was awoken by something grasping his shoulders and clambering into his lap. He groaned, and was rewarded with a warm laugh.
"I thought you were going to wait up for me."
Chuckling himself, Holden lifted his head from the back of the couch to meet Naomi's mischievous gaze. "I was. I did. How many just one mores did you do before you finally left?" She was always playful after a night of drinking and dancing on station, and he was always happy to play along.
Naomi scoffed and rolled her eyes. "Not that many. You must just be getting old. Old and boring."
"Oof," he laughed, hands lifting to rest on her waist. "Hey now—"
"That's what the 'R' in James R. Holden stands for, isn't it? 'Really Old and Boring'?" She clearly had a good night if she was picking on him like this. After everything she'd been through, it was a relief to see her relax. Even if it came as teasing blows to his ego. Holden just shook his head, smile widening. "James 'Rather Likes to Sleep' Holden?"
But clearly too buzzed to come up with good insults. "Honey, did you wake me up just to make fun of me?"
"No," she drew out, one syllable becoming four. She shifted her weight to her knees, leaned over him. Her fingers slipped into his hair. "I woke you up to do this." The fingers in his hair tightened into a fist, and she tilted his head back and pressed her lips to his.
Okay. Couldn't argue with that. So when she further deepened the kiss, he gave in, parting his lips and letting her have her way with him. He could taste the fruity mixed drink she'd thrown back before coming home. Shifting his hands to her ribs, Holden pulled her close. She melted into him.
They stayed like that, kissing slow and lazy, for long minutes, until Naomi finally pulled away with a sigh. Rested her forehead against his as they caught their breath. Tough to do around her. She always left him breathless. She ran her thumb across his lower lip with a soft hum. "I'm home," she whispered, giving him another quick kiss.
Holden snorted. "I gathered. Welcome back. You had fun?"
"I did. Would have had more fun with you there." Of course she would. She'd have fun laughing at his attempts to dance when she dragged him onto the floor with her. But she'd also have fun pressed against him as they swayed to the music. So would he, even if clubs weren't his scene. Because he'd be there with Naomi.
"Maybe next time."
Her smile was brighter than the sun. "I'd like that, Jim."
"You'd like having someone as old and boring as me as your date?" He couldn't resist.
She rolled her eyes again, tugged on his hair. "I'd like having you as my date, you... cradle robbing accountant."
Holden pursed his lips in mock thought. "Am I at least a hot old accountant?"
Naomi's responding laugh was cut off with a kiss of his own. He couldn't help it. She looked so beautiful and he loved seeing her like that. Happy and free of everything that had dragged her down over the last few years. He'd take a little verbal beating just to make her smile like that. His ego could take it.
They stayed on the couch—as Naomi would joke later—well past his bedtime.

Naomi Nagata has endured more than her fair share of pain for the sake of her relationship with her child's father. She has finally reached her limit and decides to leave. However, escaping the grasp of someone like Marco Inaros isn't going to be easy without a lot of help.
This fic is the kind of thing I never write, but here goes. It’s a Modern AU setting, and it’s about Naomi keeping her baby. A friend of mine, when I was describing the concept, described it as the “Dad Material AU” and I’m going to go with that. I tagged this fic with a poly tag because I want to be free to go there, but I don’t know how far we’ll get. It’s gonna be a lot of gen and plot-like things and found family stuff before that. If you want to keep reading without further information and adieu, you may click or scroll on, but if you prefer the AO3 format or want to see things like tags, rating, and notes about characters and their roles, then you can find all that here on AO3. Thank you to @thetruecaptain for answering my questions about age-appropriate baby behavior!
She wakes up the same way and in the same place that she has for a couple of years now. There is a low, white hum of mid-morning sun melting away dew and awakening many of her neighbors. Her phone says it's 10:06, and she still doesn't hear another adult in the apartment. She stays very still and very quiet, lying on her back on the mattress which is set simply along the middle of the wall on the floor of the larger of the two bedrooms. She is bracing herself for movement, for what comes next – rehearsing half-sobbed and half-dreamed plans from the night before with sticky eyes and a clearer head.
She braces herself for getting up, smoothly and quietly. She is hoping that she can manage to pee before the baby awakens after her for the final time of the morning. For the final time here, in this place, before something changes.
She doesn't quite make it. The soles of her feet are over the cool threshold of the bathroom before she hears the subtle movements of her son squirming in his crib back across the hall. She sighs softly and steadies herself. She goes to the crib, and the moment she lays eyes on Filip, the ache in her abdomen is forgotten. He is sitting up and reaching for the rung at the side of the crib. He appears alert, eyes darting this way and that.
She grins at him and gestures up toward herself in an encouraging motion. Filip does his best on the little mattress, and she helps him pull himself up and out the rest of the way. She holds him close, his cheek touching her neck. He squirms and she feels his hands brace at her collarbone. She soothes and bounces him idly. Her eyes dart around the room, considering how this is the only bedroom Filip has ever known.
He is so young. He'll outgrow all of this. He'll forget and move on. She isn't so sure about herself.
She takes him to get him cleaned up and changed. She gets him fed and comfortable. Then, at last, she finds a place for him while she tends to herself and washes up in the nearest sink. She feels a little bit of sweat clinging to the back of her neck, but she can shower when she gets where she's going. Every moment she can save is one more moment that she doesn't have to explain. It's one more moment she and her son won't have to endure shouting, guilt trips, or anything else that might follow honesty – the real truth.
A little while later, Filip is sitting on the rug in front of a silent, blank television, shaking a toy in his tiny hand. Naomi glances over at him while she packs half a diaper bag full of things from the kitchen cupboards. She doesn't leave them bare, but she takes enough. The past hour has been filled up with removing small piece by small piece of her life from the apartment that has been her home for going on three years. She finds herself putting things back neatly, as untouched and clean as possible. It feels like she expects to walk back in tonight with none of this making any difference, but she has made up her mind.
“You got me out of bed and over here before noon, and I'm still waiting,” Camina says dramatically. She has turned and folded her arms across her chest, leaning her back against the body of her car even with the fuel cap. The back passenger door is open with a car-seat affixed inside. Naomi notices the deep intake of breath no matter how much Camina seems determined to hide that this is anything but easy.
“It's half-past twelve now,” Naomi points out, only when she has descended the last steps from the door and come halfway across the green-space between the side door and the curb. She has Filip held to one side of her body while one strap of a backpack is slung across the other.
“Same difference,” Camina insists as she pushes off her car. She reaches out and wordlessly takes the backpack, hauling it around the car and placing it behind the driver's seat while Naomi positions Filip. He fusses a little as he is placed on his back and strapped in, but there's nothing to do for it. She touches his chest and tickles lightly across it. She stills her hand and tries to focus her eyes on his. She smiles, letting him see her practiced grin before she speaks. He makes a sound of punctuated confusion, abrupt focus, cutting off his complaint.
“We're alright, little man,” she tells him. She rubs his chest again without looking away from him. “We're okay.”
Naomi looks up with a little bit of a start when Camina moves and almost bumps the back of her head on the roof of the car.
“At least sound like you're telling the truth,” Camina advises.
Naomi can't even manage a glare. Her lips fall open, and she looks at this woman – her friend, maybe, be someone she hasn't seen in a long time who is suddenly here at least – and manages something more like incredulity. She gives Filip a guilty, quick, pointed glance for Camina's sake.
“Not like he knows what I'm saying yet,” Camina says flatly.
“He'll learn,” Naomi insists.
“One day at a time,” Camina says, the words rolling off her tongue in a way that makes it hard to tell if she's thought about them. “Ready to go?” she asks, moving quickly from one topic to another. The volume of her voice alone is enough to set Naomi on edge. She catches herself glancing around, wondering if Camina is making herself heard, wondering if it's going to draw any kind of retaliation before they travel a mile.
Naomi's eyes flit to the items that occupy the seat behind the driver's. A backpack, a diaper bag, several blankets and pillows, a few towels, and an extra plastic shopping bag or two of bottles of cosmetics and soap and children's toys make up what is left of the life she is trying to leave behind.
“As I'll ever be,” she says, trying for honesty she thinks Camina will appreciate.
Without offering a reply, Camina steps back. She pushes the back door closed behind her with a little too much resolve for a risky drive across town. Naomi gives Filip another gentle stroke across his chest and withdraws as diplomatically as she can. She checks the straps and slides into the front passenger's seat beside Camina. She leans back as much as the upright seat will let her. She sighs heavily, feeling tension try to leave her body.
“I'm serious,” Camina says as she adjusts her rearview mirror. It strikes Naomi as a more vigilant move than she might have expected. “You are going to be okay,” she says.
“I wish I shared your confidence,” Naomi replies, allowing herself to give in to a little bit of the easy smiling that exhaustion brings.
“I wish you did, too,” Camina says, louder than the grinding start of the vehicle. Naomi feels the soft gravity push them back as Camina breaks the speed limit a little on the way out of the neighborhood. “I'm telling you, you're gonna be fine,” she says, making a turn. She doesn't seem the least bit afraid of him, but she does seem mindful of territory or to have some innate sense of it. She speaks again only when they are in the clear. “Marco's always been an asshole.”
They make it to the other side of town, and the sun streaming in through the car window starts to warm Naomi just beyond the point of comfort. She cracks the window and feels a rush of air touch her face. It almost smells clean. She goes along in silence, and she wonders how much of that is a habit. Camina's apartment building is taller and there is very little grass at the base of it. Naomi glances in the rearview mirror to catch sight of the car-seat. Filip isn't old enough to walk yet, and this has got to be temporary, but she feels a little pinch of sadness in her chest for him. At least back home there had been grass in front of and beside the building, a swing set not far beyond that had seen better days but which hadn't rusted through. There were other things there, though, and she didn't want to take him back. She doesn't want to go back.
She rises earlier in Camina's apartment, she realizes. On the second morning it holds true as she braces herself and stands up from the brand new air mattress. She hears little pops and cracks as her joints settle into place. She kicks the blanket back into something of a natural arrangement and goes over to the black bars of the crib that also smells as if it has just come out of a box. The one back home had been made of wood and had the marks and dings of use already etched into it when she had helped Marco set it up with the bump on her belly just showing. She sees Filip fast asleep but with traces of dried tears and spittle on his face. Her heart pangs at needing to have him in some new and strange place, but it's for the better.
She reaches down into the diaper bag and withdraws a soft cloth which she feels beneath her thumb. She heads for the bathroom sink where she already finds Camina tying up her hair.
“Oh, sorry,” she says, taking more cautious steps forward through the half-open door.
Camina shakes her head and nods to the sink as she sidesteps it a little.
“Whatever you need,” Camina says with the same energetic force that there always seems to be in her voice, even this early in the morning. Naomi tenses and almost shushes her, but she won't. This is her home, and she needs to clean up Filip's face anyway. She's sure he needs changing. There list of things to do is a comfort when she doesn't know what else to do with herself.
She turns on the tap and begins adjusting the water, waiting for it to warm enough and then nudging it in the other direction so it won't be too hot for Filip's delicate skin. She glances up and catches Camina's eyes in the mirror. A smirk creeps across her face.
“I thought you complained about being up before noon,” she remarks.
“Things change,” Camina says.
“That quickly?”
“All the time. Thought you knew that by now.”
Naomi's smirk turns into something closer to a grimace as she runs the cloth beneath the stream of water.
“Fair enough.”
After getting Filip clean, awake, and ready for a day of quiet working out what to do now, Naomi carries him into the living room. Her feet almost miss the presence of stairs as Camina's apartment is flat, compact, and clean. While Camina is busy making coffee, Naomi spreads a blanket on the floor in front of the sofa. She sets a few of Filip's toys down for him and places him near them. He plops down with a soft grunt, seeming to take stock of is surroundings. She is relieved when he reaches out with happy recognition for a soft little ring that he closes his fingers around.
“How did you afford all this stuff?” she asks quietly without looking up.
“What stuff?” Camina asks. At least she isn't offended by the question. It catches her off-guard if anything, it seems.
“The crib. The mattress. That's easily a few hundred dollars in the space of a day,” she says. To some people, that wouldn't be very much. To people like them, it's a lifeline. Or so she'd thought.
“Where there's a need, there's a way, Naomi,” Camina hums. She looks over her shoulder, and Naomi senses it enough to look up to catch her eyes. “If you'd like to audit me, I'm sure that can be arranged.”
Naomi feels her stomach churn even as she smiles.
“Nope, that's just fine,” she says quickly. She looks down on the blanket, still sitting on the edge of it herself. “Thank you,” she adds after a moment of quiet. She leans back against the sofa's lower half, watching Filip entertain himself, a wet blubber of noise coming from his lips. The smile that comes with that is easier to bear than any. She almost feels like it could lull her back to sleep when there is a strong, loud knock on the door. She jolts upright and looks at Camina who stops playing with her spoon in her bowl of cereal.
Camina meets her eyes, puzzled this time.
“Not expecting anyone?” Naomi asks, not bothering to hide how weak and dry her voice has gone.
Camina shakes her head, but she stands and touches her waist and hips, smoothing out her shirt. Naomi wonders what else that might mean. She sees a set in Camina's jaw.
“I'll get it,” Camina says with command. “You stay right there. You and that baby aren't going anywhere,” she says.
Naomi nods without a word. She doesn't trust what she'll say next.
Camina approaches the door with a light step and she checks the peephole quickly.
“Fucking—” she murmurs lowly, close enough to be kissing the door. She grumbles to herself as she backs away, stopping the course of any more creative swearing. “It's a cop,” she says, seemingly to herself but informing Naomi, too.
The news that it is anyone but Marco is something of a relief. She hears Camina take a breath. She watches as she undoes the chain and the deadbolt with a decisive movement. She sees the man standing beyond the door in a sharply crisp, dark, dark blue uniform and just as quickly feels what is an engrained response by now, no matter how much she might wish it weren't. It's a whisper when it escapes her lips, and she otherwise stays very, very still. One hand creeps toward Filip, willing him not to make a sound.
“Shit,” she whispers, and panic and the man's words ring in her ears.

It's their first holiday all together, and Naomi watches as Jim enlists Filip to help with the cookies.
I wanted to get a whole hallmark-inspired fic up but work was heck and time was an illusion so i just wrote this little vignette instead. It’s a little Christmas treat for @pig-wings , and something i hope will get me back in the swing of things. I hope y’all enjoy it! Happy holidays!
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
The journey to Ilus is hard on Naomi, body and soul. So when she asks for the smallest of favors, Holden is more than happy to oblige.
I got this idea while thinking about how Holden calls Naomi “sexy lady”. I still have a lot of feelings about them in 4x01 and Naomi’s treatments and how much they love each other, so I just wanted to do a little ditty about that.
Hope you like it! consider leaving me a little review with your thoughts!

Naomi picked at her sleeve as she sat on the plush hotel room bed in their suite on Luna. Jim and Amos were still talking, she could hear Jim’s soft rumble through the cracked door. She’d joined the conversation as long as she could, until her head swam and her stomach churned. She’d squeezed Jim’s arm before retreating to the bedroom. Everything had gone to hell, again. They would never get a break, would they?
The Free Navy now held the Ring and the gates beyond. They’d destroyed three of the Inners’s biggest ships. They’d done the impossible. And it made her sick. Didn’t he already take enough? Millions of lives. An uneasy peace. Her past. Her son. Fred. Alex. Alex. Naomi felt Alex’s loss like a punch to the gut. She kept expecting to hear him ribbing Amos, annoying Jim, asking her to settle something for them. Laughing, loving, caring.
But Alex was gone. As was her sense of safety, her peace of mind. And Marco had nearly taken so much more. Was still taking. But he hadn’t taken her home. He hadn’t taken the Rocinante, or Jim. Amos made it off Earth. He hadn’t taken those. It didn’t mean he wouldn't try. They’d all insulted him now, he was certain to try again. But they’d be ready this time. With anger of their own and billions more behind them.
Sighing, she looked up at the door. She knew they were worried about her, her boys. Jim, especially. She kept catching him watching her. He’d seen the extent of her injuries. When Bobbie brought her home, he had been the one who’d carried her to the medbay. Who carefully helped her out of her borrowed vacsuit, her boots, her disgusting clothes. Who redressed her in a gown and got her in the autodoc and tended to her radiation burns. Laid a blanket over her when she shivered. And when she was finally stable enough for him to relax, he stayed. Sat beside her until she finally woke up, leaving only for coffee or water (the latter for her) or to use the head. He’d slept there.
Naomi remembered bits and pieces of it. Bobbie and Monica had mentioned what she didn’t.
So, hi, it’s me. with my first real fic in..... over a year and a half.
It took me almost 8 months to write, so if it comes off a bit repetitive please forgive me. I really hope you like it, and if you feel so inclined, please drop me a lil review. I want to get more of my writing out if I can.
Huge old thanks to @pig-wings for putting up with late night excerpts and months of moaning about how to word the simplest of sentences, and for giving it a look-over before posting. U rock, icon twin.

ok so this has been clanging around in my head for a long time, i read some of this m/m/f series and it really inspired me and like this leans into what i was thinking about kind of so here we go
Naomi works two jobs to support Filip, one at a bar and one at a garage. It’s at the bar where she meets them the first time. The one with the kind smile and the one who seemed relaxed and comfortable but was clearly on alert. They don’t tell her much about themselves in small-talk—the tense one often giving the kind one sharp looks if he strays too personal—but they are her easiest patrons and they tip well before leaving. They’re both handsome, and she notices them both separately take a last look at her before leaving, but they are patrons and when they leave she doesn’t think much of them outside of wondering why the tense one insisted on going ahead of the kind one before letting him enter or exit.
Until she sees them the next day during a torrential storm at her second job. Their SUV breaks down and coincidentally gets towed right to her garage, where she’s also stuck due to the rain. She watches them bicker by the car until the kind one—Jim, she would come to learn—storms into the office for some offered coffee and the tense one—Amos—stares her down. He watches her any time she works on the car. After one run to the storeroom for parts, she comes out to them fighting again, and is taken aback when Amos kisses Jim with some force. She pretends not to have seen it, but the way Amos watches her after, almost with a smile on his face, it feels like he knows. While Jim gets some sleep, Amos tells Naomi what they were fighting about: her. Jim wants to trust her, but Amos wants to protect him. He’s some sort of whistleblower, and Amos had been appointed as his protection from whoever was after him. Naomi can respect that. She’d been on the run once. as she closes her own eyes for some rest, she can’t help thinking about how good looking they both are. and how good they looked together.
when the rain clears, they take her out for breakfast to thank her for letting them stay with her. she finds the offer hard to refuse, Filip is safely with her friends Camina and Oksana who don’t expect her until later, and she wants to spend time with them. she gets to know Jim better, feels butterflies inside every time he smiles at her. every time she glances at Amos, Naomi expects disapproval, but he only looks disinterested, bored. sometimes as curious as Jim. to her surprise, she has a good time with them. she had been so unwilling to open up to anyone since Marco, but she almost couldn’t help it with Jim’s warm smile and Amos’ lack of judgement.
Eventually they leave her with Jim’s number and an invitation to dinner at their current hideaway—to Amos’ chagrin—and Naomi finds herself texting him not a day or two later. interested in him, curious about them. she takes them up on their offer and finds Amos far more engaged in his own space. almost flirty with Jim and her. when Jim leaves them to set up the table, she learns Amos knows almost as much about cars as she does. they talk for nearly an hour about their favorite machines and what the best parts are and she catches Jim watching them with a pleased look on his face.
Jim kisses her on the cheek when she leaves, and Amos watches the whole time. and so it goes like that as Amos and Jim change living spaces. she doesn’t tell them about Filip at first, she doesn’t tell them about her interest in them both. but eventually Jim’s kiss on the cheek lands on her lips, and she kisses him back with all the affection she’s not been able to share in years. she admits her feelings, her curiosities to Jim, and he laughs. They’d been considering the same of her.
Naomi spends the night with them, and she finds it hard to imagine living in a world where she doesn’t get to spend the night with them again. she learns about their relationship, how much they rely on each other and care for each other even if Amos doesn’t say it quite that way and they fight over the chances Jim takes and the strictness of Amos’ rules. or when they fight like an old married couple over dishes and habits. How protective of Jim Amos really is. how much of a crush Jim had on her that Amos teased him for. friends as much as lovers, even if they drove each other crazy. Camina and Oksana, who have a more experience with polyamory than she, tease her mercilessly as well, but encourage her to give it a chance after all she’s been through. Amos touches her so gently it astounds her, and Jim treats her as if he knows all she’s been through and wants to make up for all the pain someone else caused.
they let her into their little world, and she eventually lets them into hers. she tells them about Filip, introduces him to them, and watches them fall in love with him too. the moment Amos lays eyes on him, she can tell he would kill for him just like he would have for Jim, and she knows she’s made the right choice in finally opening herself up. to these men. when hearings and trials pass and Jim is finally safe, Amos stays, and they settle down in a home big enough for the four of them. Naomi leaves the bartending job to focus on finishing her engineering degree, with Jim and Amos contributing with a teaching job for the former and a job with her in the garage for the latter.
and Naomi is always grateful for that storm and that SUV that Amos insists on keeping until it dies for bringing these two into her life.
anyway that was a lot hope you like that maybe one day i’ll write it LOL like i always say
send me a ship and a trope mash up or whatever and i’ll see what i come up with
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
The weight of the system sits on Naomi's shoulders between Filip's rejection, Alex's death, and Marco's assault on the Ring Gate. But with Jim, for a moment, the rest of the world falls away.
reboosting my new fic. just wanted to give Naomi something soft and nice and loving after the hell she went through in S5 and combined it with the ideas formal wear gives a humble fic writer
I wanted to put a little bit in the pegging fic of naomi teasing holden a little and so i threw this in the middle of what I have
He tugs her in impossibly tighter, sighs in a way that’s more content than exasperated. “Naomi. I really want you to fuck me with a strap-on as soon as possible. Please.”
His words send a shiver through her. “Thank you,” she whispers, kissing him once more. Hearing it made it real. Made it theirs, not hers. And with that behind them, she speaks another thought their conversation, his reminder, has inspired. “So... “
Jim’s brow furrows, but his smile doesn’t fade. “So...?
A wicked smile grows on Naomi’s face. “Did you have a type, James Holden?”
Confusion crosses his, but only for a moment before he’s smiling again, laughing. Loud, genuine, free. Happy. She can’t help but kiss him again. There’s so much for them to talk about. So much for her to learn. But she’s ready. Ready to share this with him. And she’s grateful he is, too.
