The mission parameters were simple. Routine, even, and he had stated as much to Recently when he'd packed for their assignment. Something was fussing about in the broken shores again and their unit had been selected to go and check things out. The paladin smiled inwardly. As he bid farewell to his wife, he'd reassured her. He'd be done, and back before she knew it. If he'd only known, he might have kissed her a little bit longer, held their son just a little bit tighter…

The assignment itself was simple. They had been doing well, just getting everyone assembled for the briefing before there had been talk of the city moving… No real knowledge of when. Mages and their teleports, of course. Neither his brother, or he, had expected it would be soon. It was something that seemed fairly routine for the citizens that called the city home. So when the movement had happened, it had been a bit jarring, but they would simply have to get everyone together and re-group, figure out where they were and then get back to the place they still needed to be. Such re-deployments were not unknown to the older sindorei. they had used them in the Thalassian military after all. Re-grouping with his unit, with his brother, was simple enough, too, however the sudden rumbling was accompanied by an all too familiar chittering, the sound he dreaded.. that he knew all too well from his time in Northrend.

Nerubians…

Orders were barked, and he followed to the letter. In that moment he was not his commander's playful older brother. He was a soldier. Citizens were escorted to the crowd at Krasus Landing, where several mages had set to teleporting their people to safety. He swore he saw familiar faces in the crowd but there was no time to think on it.

He was in the middle of fending off a nerubian scarab lord when he heard the crack, felt the ozone of energy shoot through the air. He had just enough time to cast a shield upon himself before the sensation of the ground being ripped from under him caused his head to spin. The fall was not pleasant, and he did not have the time, nor forethought to summon his divine steed before the world went black from the ground rushing to meet him far too quickly.

"I'm sorry… My love…."

When he awoke, he was uncertain how much time had passed. A golden glow still illuminated his form, faintly, and he felt bruises starting to form where he was certain there should have been broken bones. Trying to move, to sit up, he found a sharp pain in his skull, and one arm, though the arm finally moved, with some effort, he found he was caught.. by his hair, tabard, one boot twisted and caught between rocks, while debris shifted over his head. He recognized some of the stone.. sewer grates.. he was under part of the sewer

So, you’re moving abroad… That’s great!

Being an expat for 15 years, I can tell you that it’s been a rewarding journey. New cultures, food, people and way of doing things – It’s a different world out there.

I play FFXIV and there’s a big expansion coming to the game in a few months, and one of the things announced last night/this morning was a new beast tribe with very strong ties to the Shinto faith. (They worship Kami and their primary deity is named “Susano”.) Since this was posted on my main blog, I had kept my spiritual/religious musings off of it until now, so bear that in mind.

Is it weird that I’m so excited for the new beast tribe and primal (Susanoo-no-Mik– I mean Susano) announced last night?

Little known fact that I typically only share with a few people who know me, but since this is Tumblr and like literally no one here knows me (so I don’t care much what people think), I’ll say it: I’m a Shintoist. (Wouldn’t usually share that because people unfamiliar with my ventures into paganism will most likely just dismiss me as a weeaboo.)

Seeing Kami worship and specific Kami portrayed in popular media just makes me so happy for some reason. Especially when it’s in one of my favorite games, and especially when it’s a specific Kami I’m familiar with.

To add to all of that, I’ve been considering attempting to contact/connect to Susanoo-no-Mikoto a bit more in my practice. Then he just… shows up in my game world. Strange coincidence. ;;;; (Or perhaps no coincidence at all?)
