In Better, Not Bitter, I write a lot about how education has helped me at every stage of life. Here I am graduating from Junior High. Most people don't think of that as a momentous rite of passage. However, I was leaving a school for kids who were struggling, but still had promise, only to move on to LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts -- one of New York's most prestigious public schools. It's really crazy to go from one extreme to the other. The teachers in my middle school really cared and had such a huge impact on my next steps. I can't remember how I landed there, but you can tell form the smile on my face that graduation day was a true victory.
