I do appreciate how eager everybody is to call out mormonism as a fundamentally evil institution these days but we are really running into concept dilution because tumblr has never seen a derogatory way to refer to something that it didn't immediately latch onto. you know, the same way tumblr is actually infested with terfs who want trans women dead but saying the word "patriarchy" gets you called a terf nowadays.
I posted before about how romantasy is not "giving mormonism" (because mormons have been told that any kind of depiction of sex, even written, is sinful and degrades your immortal soul) but like. sabrina carpenter is also not giving mormonism. mormons don't like women who have sex. taylor swift is also not giving mormonism for the same reason; your average mormon is scandalized at that song about kelce's dick.
I also find it suspicious and frustrating how it's only things involving women that get called "mormon aesthetic" or whatever because the men of the mormon church are the ones who run it and declare that the most important thing a woman can do is be a mother and, by the way, that's why the men get super sacred god magic and women don't. because being a mother is magical 🙃
anyway I'm frustrated by how it's always women making their own choices about their creative brands or the image they present or the books they read/write that are the ones who are reinforcing mormonism. it's not the men who are the problem. never is! it's not the men who talk about how their precious daughters will never even see a man or go on a date until they're out of high school (a common mormon rule btw), or the men who say that exposing their kids to information about sexuality or gender will destroy their souls, or the men who use the church and its partner organizations as cover to abuse children, both sexually and otherwise.
somebody's going to come in here and pull that "but I just think it's crazy we don't acknowledge women are evil. like has anyone ever talked about how women are also bad" and like congrats doofus you're right, women can be evil. but many of the most evil things in the world, including the mormon church, are like that because of men, because of how patriarchy and privilege works. do you want to know how far down the chain of command you have to go in the mormon church to find an evil woman who isn't just some church authority's wife? it's pretty far!
