I dumped my first high school ex when we were 16. we’d been dating for two years, and known each other for 10 at that point. We’d always had a “we’re high school sweethearts destined for each other” vibe that was so stupid. I was into academics, he wasn’t. I was religious, he wasn’t. On and on and on.

He was suffocating, manipulative, and just didn’t jive with my friends. He’d want to be on the phone for 2.5 hours every day and I just. couldn’t. I made a pro’s and cons list. It busted him the fuck up.

We ended up dating again in college- and this time I saw he was still an asshole for not being supportive when my grandmother died. We almost got back together a third time two years later, right before I started dating Nick. Annnnnd I realized he was still with “baby mama” and noped the fuck out.

Oddly he ended up being one of the most supportive people during my life crisis of ‘13? Like...without Armano/J I might’ve done something stupid because I had so few friends nearby. A few tours in the millitary, PTSD, and seeing some serious shit turned him into a decent person. Or I hope, anyway. Over one of those long car rides in ‘13, we argued/cried together and he angrily told me we could have been friends the first time we broke up, and the second. Dude, no we couldn’t have. You wouldn’t give me space when I was screaming for it. 

He pulled some very silly, unnecessary protective/glowering shit at Mom’s funeral that Mike handled like a champ. (It helped that I went home and fucked Mike’s brains out that night, I’m told.)

We’re both married now. I’m happy. I hope for his little girl’s sake, he is. Last I talked to him...probably a year ago? Over facebook? I gave him Dad’s number to talk some serious millitary PTSD. Haven’t heard from him since. He’s probably the only ex I don’t harbor any resentment towards. Just a sort of sense of “there’s no way in hell that would have worked and I’m so glad it didn’t.”

On another note, I broke another boy’s heart by dumping him- ex numero dos- but that fucker cheated on me, so no regrets there :)
