Exector (Arc System Works - PSX - 1995)
intro for Exector versus actual gameplay
(Arc System Works - PSX - 1995)
Annon-Guy: If EXECTOR from the PS1 Game of the same name became a playable character in a fighting game, how do you think he would play?
If he's too big, Arc System can easily downscale him like Capcom did with Sentinal and Shuma-Gorath in Marvel Vs. Capcom.
My recollection of Exector is that it had a lot of missiles, and its job was to save a Space station named Spin Drift from crashing on to the planet or something along those lines...
Well, it's been years since that game came out, so unless ARC System Works has half a mind to revive that IP, it'd take a while to do so.
Side note: apparently the game itself was mostly developed by Minoru Kidooka, the company's President!

This article is part of our Japanese Obscurities feature. We put out a whole book about them, which is available as both a full color hardcover and a Kindle ebook from Amazon! If youâd like to see more of these features, please check out the book and if you enjoyed it, leave a five star review so we can do a follow up with even more interesting, offbeat, or historically important Japanese games!
Exector is notable for being the first original game developed by Arc System Works and the first to have Guilty Gear creator Daisuke Ishiwatari credited on it. Heâs listed under â3D Modeling Assistant Designerâ, but Ishiwatari himself says that his role was limited to drawing characters for the gameâs homepage and a bit of debugging. Despite this, Exector exhibits some of the defining qualities of Guilty Gearâs first installment, such as multiple references to rock bands and gameplay thatâs unpolished but endearing.

Annon-Guy: Code Shifter - 1. Why is the CPU in Colorful Fighters so aggressive? When I played as Desert Ship and Gear is two different instances, they either keep dodging me or all of them team up to take me down. 2. EXECTOR is in the game as an assist character, but does it mean the Gear Robot is like his successor or something? Also, why are EXECTOR'S colors white instead of black like in the PS1 Game?
1. Thatâs just how the A.I. was programmed for it. Like I said, friends would be more fun to play with. Otherwise, do your best to survive by yourself and use Assists to serve as âbubble armorâ and protect yourself.
2. Damascus Gear has no relation to EXECTOR to my knowledge.
As for the sprite, itâs probably because it looks different in-game rather than the 3D model they rendered for the box art/Title cover.
It was also one of the first games Minoru Kidooka programmed himself, so he probably took some liberties.
Could ArcSys gain back the rights to Executor from Sega?
They probably could, but given that EXECTOR (get the spelling right) wasnât exactly a popular game, I donât think thereâs much value in it for them.
I think theyâre better off working on other more significant games, like Damascus Gear.
Post Edit: I incorrectly stated that they could get the rights to Exector âbackâ from Sega, but in fact Sega does not own the rights to the game anymore and the game itself is in limbo until ARC System Works decides to make a sequel... assuming they ever do.
