Bel!Even will make Robbe's and all of our hearts jump into the roof tonight and this month will definitely have been worthwhile :)
As we near the release of series 11 of Doctor Who, there is one thing that has plagued me since the news of Jodie taking over first emerged. She is a woman, taking over the role of The Doctor
...and by that, I mean why shouldn’t she be allowed to be The Doctor??? It’s not like it’s 1963 anymore. For an amazing show that’s basic premise centered around time travel, regeneration, and aliens, I would think that having a woman take on the role should be practically insignificant.
The only reason I bring this up now, is because I love everything I’ve seen from Jodie’s Doctor so far. She looks funny, and witty, and even, dare I say...happy. I cannot say for sure since we won’t see anything for a couple weeks, but it honestly looks like she’s encompassing some of the best qualities of the past Doctors, while still adding a whole lot of new quirks to the character.
I’m tired of people, my own father included, saying that this season isn’t going to hold up to my expectations, or that she isn’t right for the role because “The Doctor is supposed to be a man” I mean really??? is there some rule book I’m not privy to because I have lady parts, that specifically says the role of the Doctor has to go to a man????
I am gonna be honest, and say that I love Peter Capaldi as an actor, and I overall enjoyed his performance as The Doctor....but I didn’t really enjoy his series very much. I think that a lot of it comes from how I couldn’t like his companions very much. While they were different characters, I often noticed a lot of similarities between Bill and Clara which made it hard for me to enjoy either of them as companions, along with the fact that sometimes it was hard for me to just have fun while watching Peter’s doctor. I’m sorry, and I hope I don’t get hate for having that opinion, but it’s the truth for me.
Looking at Jodie though, I think that I have finally found MY Doctor. Everyone always has that one actor that made the character for them...and while I’ve always had a fondness for David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Tom Baker for bringing so much silliness and fun to the Doctor, I’ve never fully had that connection with any of their Doctor’s. Seeing Jodie take on the role though, it gave me so much hope. She’s treading completely new waters here. As the first female Doctor, she has the chance to really define who she wants the character to be now, and I think that’s exciting.
Along with that, I love what it means for girls all around the world. It’s giving them someone to look up to and whole universes to enjoy. My little sister has always been on the fence about watching DW, it’s something she finds interesting, but wasn’t sure if she’d really like it. I’m hoping now she’ll see what Jodie brings to the table, and see a woman that will inspire her, and help her to be better and grow up into the bright, smart, woman I know she wants to be.
So yeah....sorry I’m basically ranting here, but I think Jodie is going to be absolutely brilliant, and I wish butthurt boys would stop trying to tear her down before they’ve even given her a chance.
